MORGANTOWN, W.Va. ? Bob Huggins is making his Freedom Hall return tonight when West Virginia takes on Louisville in a Big East game that will be televised nationally on ESPN. Huggins? Cincinnati teams used to hook up with Louisville on a regular basis when the two were playing in Conference USA.

Coach Bob Huggins says players like Alex Ruoff are going to have to shoot the ball well tonight in order to knock off Louisville.

?It?s a great environment,? Huggins said of Freedom Hall. ?They?ve got 18,000 people in there no matter who they play. They come to watch the Cardinals, which is the way it?s supposed to be.?

Huggins last took a basketball team into Freedom Hall on Feb. 2, 2005, when his Cincinnati Bearcats dropped a 77-70 decision to the Cardinals. Huggins has a 5-6 record at Freedom Hall including a span of winning four straight there from 1998-2001.

?They are knowledgeable basketball fans and they?re very classy. They appreciate good basketball,? Huggins said. ?They root like heck for their team but it?s a class deal to go into.?

Huggins and Louisville coach Rick Pitino have had some classic battles in the past.

?He?s one of the better coaches in the country,? Huggins said. ?They do a great job offensively of centering the ball and trying to take your help away. I think they really play to their strengths.

?Defensively he?s changed a bunch. He used to be more full-court man-to-man, run and jump and really put a lot of pressure on you. Now they?re more two-two-one and they play more zone than what they?ve played,? Huggins said. ?He?s played a lot of zone since he?s been at Louisville.?

Louisville is 10-4 this year having already lost twice at home against Dayton and Cincinnati. The Cardinals have been hit hard by injuries, but many of their injured players are beginning to return. Six-eight forward Juan Palacios played 34 minutes in Louisville?s 89-75 victory over Kentucky after suffering a knee injury on Oct. 13. David Padgett is also back after sustaining a broken right kneecap against Jackson State on Nov. 18. Neither player starts but adds size and depth to a front line that already has a pair of 6-9 players in Earl Clark and Derrick Character.

Huggins believes it is going to be paramount for West Virginia to keep Louisville off the glass if it hopes to pull off a big road victory.

?They?re really big and we can?t let Character, Padgett and Palacios and all those big guys have their way,? Huggins said. ?We?ve got to be able to rebound the ball and they?re going to play a lot of zone so we?re going to have to make some shots.?

The Mountaineers (11-3, 1-1) shot the basketball much better in last Sunday?s 79-64 win over Marquette at the Coliseum. West Virginia shot 68.2 percent in the second half and finished the game making 24 of 50 for 48 percent. Alex Ruoff and Joe Alexander scored 19 points and both are averaging better than 15 points per game.

The Cardinals have won five of their last six but are 0-1 in conference play, suffering a surprising 58-57 loss to Cincinnati. Louisville shot just 35.6 percent for the game including 3 of 23 from 3-point range against the Bearcats.

Huggins says his plans are to win a Big East championship and in order to do so his team has to win on the road at places like Louisville.

?We?re playing to win a league championship which means you?re going to have to beat these people. It?s a great game for us,? he explained. ?We need some road wins obviously. I think we?re playing pretty well right now and I think we?re starting to shoot the ball better again.?

Tip off is scheduled for 7 pm. Dave Pasch, Len Elmore and Allen Hopkins will handle the call for ESPN. MSN?s radio coverage begins with the pre-game show at 6:30. Fans outside of West Virginia can catch the broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 127 or on the Internet through MSNsportsNET.com.

i think it's a good number, the 137 that is. i'd like to think it's gonna start out pretty quick and if the mountaineers are hitting some 3s and we don't get any whiffs under the basket by padgett & co. resulting in goose eggs i think it'll be an easy 70+ 1st half, and having louisville get some guys back and west va being fairly deep i think we'll have some aggressive play and plenty of FT attempts in the second half pushing it over.
