Okay, so out here on the Left Coast we have a 2 horse race b/w Boise State and Fresno State.
The consensus is that either Fresno or Boise will take the title.
I'll go w/ Boise and their fantastic coaching staff. They are w/o a doubt the best prepared team in the conf. week after weeMF
Broncos lost 3 key def. personnel along each unit but not to worry as they return DE Williams , LB Hall and I think CB Alexander is ready to have a breakthrough season after a trial-by-fire in his first yr. as starter.
Broncs gambled on D a lot last season often leaving their secondary all alone in man coverage..so their secondary may have gotten torched at times but it wasn't for a lack of overall talent.
JZ is back and as I said last yr. he was gonna be a star. He needs a lot of refinement but he'll only get better. TE Schouman is a key component as he needs to stay healthy to give Boise a mismatch in every game. RB depth is excellent w/ several excl. role backs.
My surprise team is New Mexico State just nudging out Idaho. Yah, I know some consider Hal Mumme the Wizard of Oz of college football - leader of a gimmicky O. I believe he'll inject a whole new energy into Las Cruces.
Officially the QB position is up in the air b/w Gill and Vincent but it looks like Gill has the edge. He has a nice arm, size, and some mobility. Regardless, the new signal caller has the most underrated WR's and TE's in the conf. to throw to, esp. w/ ex-QB Dombrowski emerging as the new go-to-guy. He is gonna be a playmaker for the Aggies.
NMSU's D is gonna be suspect though I kinda like the LB unit spearheaded by J. Cottrell. DC Widenhofer and LB coach Paterra have so much NFL and NCAA expr. that it has to rub off on their players, right?
Disappointment of the WAC should fall at the doorstep of La Tech and Hawaii. Both lost irreplaceable players in RB Moats and QB Chang, respectively. Both lost a key asst. coach, DC Rose and OL coach Cavanaugh, respectively. Neither squad is settled at the QB spot. The Bulldogs lose most of their D while the Warriors lose all of their skill personnel on O if WR Rivers doesn't make the grade and RB/SB Ilaoa isn't healthy after a redshirt yr.
