So 6 months ago this sounded like a good idea. Now that the Mini-Marathon is tomorrow I don't know, LOL. I've been training off and on for the past few months. We start in downtown Indy and then walk west to the Speedway where we walk a lap around the Brickyard, then make our way back to downtown. I've gotten several tips from friends that have done it before and am looking for any insight from my MJ friends that may have participated in similar marathons before. Already looking forward to beer afterward, as long as they aren't dragging me off the course at some point! :mj06:

It might be me Brent but....I'd drive. Sounds like a lot of work to walk.

Your call.

I'd suggest making a few beer stops along the way, Tide. Just a thought...

Good luck man, give it hell! :00hour

Good luck RollTide

Good luck RollTide

I did 1 marathon and lets say that was enough for me. The trick is to start out slower than you "think" you need to go, atleast the first 2 miles. Then go get it...:box2: the beer that is:00hour

When I decided to do this I thought, "What the hell. I can walk 13 miles." I didn't realize that you have to maintain an 18 minute a mile or less pace. So far I've been able to average about 17 minutes during my training. Fortunately it's going to be in the upper 40s when we start in the morning.

The 34th Running of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon takes place on Saturday, May 8, 2010. The Mini has sold-out for the past nine years with 35,000 registrants, and an additional 4,000 participants in the Finish Line 500 Festival 5K. The Mini-Marathon is the largest half-marathon in the U.S., and overall, the fifth largest running event in America. The 2010 event sold out on December 14, 2009.

Following the Mini-Marathon and 5K races, the participants, along with their family and friends which reaches nearly 90,000 people, gather in the 500 Festival Post Race Party at Military Park in downtown Indianapolis. Participants have the chance to relax and receive food and drinks, while enjoying post-race entertainment. The Post Race Party takes place until 2 p.m. for all participants, and the public is welcome. The event features live music from great bands, tasty food, your favorite thirst quencher from the Beer Garden, shopping for race merchandise and other goodies, and much more! The Post-Race party is FREE and open to the public.
