Arrested at the Super Bowl: Warren Sapp joins infamous list

We almost got through Super Bowl week without any famous NFL personalities getting arrested.

Almost.

Joining a list that includes former Atlanta Falcons safety Eugene Robinson and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis(notes), Warren Sapp has gone and gotten himself arrested during Super Bowl week.

Sapp, a lead analyst on the NFL Network and one of the all-time great defensive players in league history, was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery. According to the Miami Herald, police believe that Sapp physically assaulted his girlfriend at the Shore Club Hotel at around 5:00 a.m.

Via TMZ, the woman claims that Sapp allowed her to sleep in his hotel room, but yanked her out of bed early in the morning and then "grabbed her and began to choke her." Sapp reportedly told police that he was trying to help the woman up, and she fell.

The NFL Network has decided to go ahead and pull Sapp from their Super Bowl coverage pending a review of the matter.

No matter how it works out in the end, though, Sapp won't endanger Eugene Robinson's status as the greatest Super Bowl arrest of all-time. The day before the Super Bowl, Robinson was arrested for offering an undercover policewoman $40 to perform a sex act. Ironically, that happened on the same day that Robinson received the Bart Starr Award for his "high moral character."

The most famous Super Bowl arrest of all time, of course, belongs to Ray Lewis. Though he was eventually cleared of everything except an obstruction of justice charge, Ray Lewis was arrested as a suspect in a murder at a party following Super Bowl XXXIV.

Most recently, New England Patriots cornerback Willie Andrews(notes) was arrested two days after playing in the Super Bowl and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

How the hell are you helping someone out of bed by choking them? MMMMMM.

I wonder if he told the woman to "Put a jersey on! Put a jersey on!" before he assulted her.

Another reason the dislike that trash...
