was anyone else underwhelmed by "Kingdom Hospital"?...and princess di makes me barf..

i thought it was pretty dull....and certainly not scary....not exactly the jump start i expected for a show that was so extensively advertised....

i`ll watch another episode....if that`s a snoozer,sayonara,S.K.....i shouldn`t be surprised....i haven`t finished a king book in around 10 years .....

and while i`m at it,i`m getting pretty sick of all the Princess Di hand wringing.....

the broad married into fame....she pursued celebrity and got it in spades....nobody put a gun to her head....and a great humanitarian?.....for what?....some photo ops in africa?......in between the jet setting.....

has prince charles ever slandered her?..... i don`t recall hearing about it....all the guy has ever gets is grief from sleazy "biographers" and sycophants...secret tapes that this woman made saying that she wanted to abort her child when it was 4 months in the womb?......what kind of effect did she think that would have on her child?...

she`s anointed a saint while mother teresa, who died the same week(i think),barely gets noticed....

she was a nobody that cashed in.....that`s what i saw...a pretty face....that seems to be all that matters to many...

says alot about our values...

i grew up reading and watching as much stephen king as i could.
the stuff has gotten so weak that i don't bother much anymore. i think last year he came out with his third or fourth book about a possessed car.
old stuff.

I am curious to what were some of your favorite Steven King Movies. I am talking more about the small time movies that were made based on his books. Reason I ask is if you ever saw the movie, Needful Things ? I thought it was excellent and one of the best movies based off one of his books.

used to be great....i remember as a younger guy reading the short story collection"night shift" all night long....very seldom do short stories grab me...that was a great collection of stories....

i think, maybe, the well has gone dry..........i get the feeling the longer the book, the more he gets...to much filler in most of his newer stuff...

for fiction and thrillers, still like dean koontz, stuart woods and lawrence block quite a bit.......

scott..i know you didn`t ask me, but,the movies that i thought were good were...."dead zone"....."salem`s lot"(mini series with james mason)....silver bullet(gary busey`s line...."you kids have me running around playing hardy boys meets reverend werewolf"...a classic...).....and i liked "needful things"also...of course, not scary ,but, shawshank redemption goes without saying...and the one with the kids...i can`t remember the name...

I watched the Stephen King flick last night. You are right, it was not freak out scary type stuff right off the bat. But that also goes along with the way the majority of his books are written. Start slow and introduce you to the characters and hint at the things that are coming.

But, in my opinion, King's stories do not translate well into theatrics. Primary reason being is that a lot of his writings put you inside the head of the characters and let you know how they are feeling and their thoughts, which is pretty difficult to do on the big screen.
From Buick 8 was his latest "killer car" story which was a bit different than Christine, but same basic premise. I was disappointed in the book after reading it, and even while reading it because it seemed to lack that "punch" that all his past books have.

I am going to keep watching Kingdom Hospital, one because I am a big fan of his, and two, I think it is going to get dramatically better about 3/4 of the way thru the series. Slow start and build up, and then a massive amount of "scare factor" and other actions, and a fast ending. Just like most of his books.

I think I have read just about every fictional story he has written with the exception of "Eyes of the Dragon" and have loved every one. I am currently working on the Dark Tower series and anxiously awaiting the final chapters.
In my opinion, they need to do the Dark Tower movie, which would probably be comprable to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
But time and time again, King lets the motion picture industry take his works and then does not assist them at all or enough in developing the characters... see The Dreamcatcher after reading the book and you will know exactly what I mean.

Shawshank def. was my favorite King movie and one of my favorite all time movies.
