in say the past 30 years.......and to be honest I dont remember one being this bad. Even in the Hackett and Ted Tollner years I dont think they were this bad.........Just remember Fresno State just trashing these guys just like Texas did last night..........then Fresno looked rather ordinary vs Nevada,La Tech and Tulsa the next 3 games.........

youre right, mav, they were a colossal joke--to be #1 and trot out that garbage oft times doesnt ring any bells for trophies ... the resident genius was confused all night and couldnt adjust that #10 ran right, and his poorly coached troops didnt even think it was necessary to contain at all ... the other thing no one seems to talk about is the horrible coaching job by PC not alerting his defense under no circumstances not to call time out NO MATTER WHAT ... had they saved that TO, they prob had very real shot for tying FG ... I coach friggin 16 y-o's and they know better than to call a time out in hoops when we dont have any more .... thats coaching and PC should be on carpet big time on that--imbecile move ... if he gloms all the glory, he should step up and accept blame for that--let alone not challenging (using TO) for Young's knee, kicking to 30 on kickoffs (when ball was traveling deep into end zone) and many other housewife mistakes ... as I said, I never seen him coach such a clinker, I guess he piled up all his mistakes into this one and then went into panic after VY stole his heart on 4th and 5 (#90 played that like moron too)...

I dont see the dynasty maintaining if bush and white leave. Yeah they have blue chippers etc, but they won many games thru great breaks in last 2 years and now with new QB etc., it aint gonna be easy with peeps gunning at you 24/7/365 ... besides, wont surprise me at some point they get rung up by NCAA, this school has historically been dirty as Pig Pen ... people always think PC is above reproach in this regard, think again, people said same of Don James in seattle until Billy Joe started carrying shotguns etc

usc had their run, maintaining is a bitch ... one old saying Ive always believed, 'its easier to climb then to cling'

Texas D

Texas D

The difference between these two defenses is clear. UT got the job done in the 4th qtr. when the game is on the line. All yardage stats. aside, they stopped SC on 4th and anything.

VY ran ball into endzone untouched on 4th and 5 when the game is on the line.

I forgot, PC is the greatest defensive mind in CFB, but he could'nt stop one man or high school offense.

There is another HS offense in Texas that would shred USC defense, Southlake Carroll HS.

Three points gives UT the NC, bottom line

hey derek, where did I say this was for one game let alone where did I say TX defense was great during game? You dont deserve to win with defense like this on any front... what's your point?

My point exactly Pt1gard USC's defense can win in the Pac-10 Why? Pac-10 sucks. Put a team with that type defense in Big 12, SEC, or Big-10 They loose 3 games a year or more!! No doubt!

But the UT D faced the greatest offense to ever grace a football field, while USC D faced a "high school gimmick" offense. Yardage & pt totals shouldn't have even been close in that case.

Funny thing is I saw one gimmick play used in this whole game & it was USC on that WR pass.

Watching USC or most of the teams in the PAC 10 (with the exceptions of Oregon and usually Zona) is a great tool to show young players on the improper techniques to use when playing defense. I have noticed this quite a bit when watching PAC 10 teams play that they tend to bend at the waist instead of bending at the knee's at the point of impact which in turn does not allow the tackler to generate an explosion into the carrier of the ball which usually results in the failure to wrap up the carrier. Also, if you noticed USC defenders when coming to make a tackle usually used log strides and then left their feet which is polar opposite of good technique where you use short choppy steps and at impact you would prefer to have a plant leg on the ground to generate the power. I realize that they were going against one of the best pure athletes that we have seen in quite sometime in Young, but I noticed USC doing the same type of poor defensive technique when they played Fresno and ND. I believe that as the PAC 10 evolves with the new infusion of defensive minded coaches (Stoops, Willingham) that the defenses in the PAC 10 will improve or else the programs that fail to improve on defense will falter in the PAC 10.

For starters, Pete Carroll has coached USC for only 5 years. Brown at Texas for something like 10 years. USC has top 5 recruiting classes for 4 years vs Texas 8+ years. If you think about it, USC is still building depth while Texas is loaded.

USC defense last night looked poor. Maybe the worst performance since Carroll arrived. BUT I like to give credit to VY for making USC look so bad. VY was on fire all night. Also Texas OL was outstanding. CREDIT has to be given to Texas.

USC did tackle poor, but like I said, partly credit Texas. Under PC, USC has ALWAYS been solid tackling team. They had an off night in RB. I honestly think Texas had a lot to do with it.

I am guilty of saying the CO defenders got hits on Young and bounced off. I said it repeatedly. USC did the exact same thing as CO. Young is magical and you do not realize it until you see it live or against your team. On film he doesn't look all that. Maybe the delusion because he is so tall. I think talking bad about USC D is taking credit away from Texas. You will never see me bad mouth the Texas D because I know how great the USC O is. Both D's couldn't stop opposing offenses. Doesn't mean both D's were garbage. NOBODY was stopping VY last night. Whenever you get an extremely mobile QB who completes 30/40 passes you can't stop him. I said in my analysis if Young completes 20/30 with no INT's, USC prob. loses. He completed 10 more than I thought would have been great performance.

Mack Brown just completed his 8th year @ UT...not in the 10 range just yet.

Other than that this may be your best post since the night of Jan 4th.

USC was 1 play away from the win. If they are a joke what does that say about TX and all the rest ? You can't go back 30 yrs or even 10 yrs. The game has changed. Even if USC had won that game , It doesn't change who they are & who TX is and what the game has become. I think we are in a era, were the offense has the edge. Not to mention, there is no championship in CFB. You have so much time between games and they don't decide it on the field. We as gamblers should know that. Just think if the NFL took the 2 best teams decided by some poll and waited 4 or 5 wks and then had a game. What would they call it ? The Super Poll ?
