Tuesday's scouting report
Scouting the Angels
LHP Jarrod Washburn (4-3, 3.35): In his last start, Wednesday, Washburn frustrated the Rangers over seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits. It was his first win at home since July 15, and it snapped a streak of four consecutive starts without a decision. Washburn is 7-5 with a 4.47 ERA against the Rangers for his career and 1-0 this season with a 2.95 ERA.
Loves to face: Gary Matthews Jr. (1-for-11)
Hates to face: Hank Blalock (8-for-19)
Update: Garret Anderson knocked in his 1,000th run Sunday with an eighth-inning double. He is the franchise leader in hits, doubles, total bases and RBIs and is second in extra-base hits.
Scouting the Rangers
RHP John Wasdin (0-0, 1.38): Wasdin, who started 10 games for the Rangers last season, gets the emergency start out of the bullpen for Kenny Rogers, who has been diagnosed with a fractured metacarpal on his right (non-throwing) hand. Wasdin hadn't allowed a run in his first 12 2/3 innings before the Astros scored twice against him in one-third of an inning Saturday.
Loves to face: Garret Anderson (1-for-22)
Hates to face: Vladimir Guerrero (3-for-7)
Update: Francisco Cordero needed 20 pitches to earn the save in 1 2/3 innings Saturday. But Cordero isn't always so efficient. Among the 12 pitchers who entered Monday with 18 or more saves, Cordero averages the second-highest number of pitches per inning, 17.7.
