How do the NYY do it?? Did their owner sell his soul to the devil?

Anyway Weaver won't be pitching against the redsox tomorrow.

Should have waited

Should have waited

If the Yanks think Weaver is that great, they should have let him beat the Redsox tomorrow and then made the trade.

Not that he would have beat Pedro anyway. Who is on the way out of the NYY's rotation?

let me fill you in on something there are way more owners and ownership groups, that are worth more then george, but he spends the money where others won't.

you have disney, the tribune and 3-4 other large corps with there hand in on teams as well as the rangers man more worth, braves and about 7 other guys infront of george. but the difference is they are toys and write offs to them for george its his money maker, hey every other team owner could spend if they wanted to but the key word is wanted to.

don't want to hear a bunch of crying this is a business and he is about the only owner that runs it like one.

Just a thought -

You're absolutely correct, there are lots of other owners out there that have the financial ability to keep up with the NYY.

I am not so sure that I agree with your statement that the reason the NYY are successful is because George runs it like a business. They are successful because George wants to win!! I don't see how it is good business to take on the payroll the NYY take on every year. Good business would be to maximixe revenue and minimize expenditures. I think the difference is that a lot of other owners are happy putting a product on the field that is cost efficient so they are still somewhat competitive but generating the most amount of profit. If all George was concerned about was the "business," I wouldn't think he would continue spending like he does.

Does that make sence?

it does to a point, but the yanks are making a killing with the new yes network and that came about from winning it takes spending money to make money,he is doing a nice job income wise ,even if he doesnot show it.

the winning brings the money and yes other owners do just put a team out on field to compete and take a shot be it along shot but the have their reasons for that and most of it is because their ownership in mlb is not as great as their other business holdings and thats how these guys are all very well off because they have a plan and stick to it for their own reasons. and they know they can always seel at a nice price because there are lots of other business men and corps. that want a play toy.

So. as this thread suggested and your a "BettinMan",

i don't think weaver was traded for to pick up the slack in the bullpen........so who are the yanks very concerned about....?
this is the question, so we can make some money..

the ball comes to the mound only so many times....

wells
mussina
pettitte
clemens
hernandez(just came back)

#1 wells breaking down 2nd half
#2 clemens has a few different things bothering him and they will all year.

and if these guys make it through season which i don't think they will weaver will move into starting role and hernandez will go to long man and also be used as another set up man which puts stanton as a spot pitcher in bp .

being able to use mendoza and hernandez as a set up guy every other day will be very hard on teams and have stanton on call for spot batters. all the yanks will need is 6 out of starters and will keep them very fresh, then the 3 i name work 1-2 innings every other game to get to the 9th and slam the door.

As a long time Brewers fan it pains me to say this, but fletcher is absolutely right about Steinbrenner. He does what it takes to win and he runs his ballclub professionally at all times. He spends the money he takes in instead of pocketing it and when the lean years do hit (think back to the late eighties or early nineties), he doesn't go into a shell, he continues to spend while at the same time developing talent.

It is very frustrating because let's say Kansas City was able to duplicate their success from the mid 70's to the mid 80's. They still wouldn't have the TV and radio market to draw from and they still wouldn't have their own TV network.

Lots of folks complain about competitive imbalance but is it really better to have a situation where it is extremely hard for good players on top teams to stay pu like in the NFL? I dunno, perhaps it is, but one thing that is for sure is that no NFL team draws like the Yanks draw in baseball.

I actually do hope they put in revenue sharing to a larger degree to make it a bit more fair but in the mean time I agree with fletcher that being mad at the Yanks for doing their job well is kind of a low class move.

I hate the Detroit Tigers......I am seriously contemplating switching allegiances. WTF....Carlos Pena and a minor leaguer for our best player. Dombrowski better know something I dont';

Kudos to the Yankees on making the proper moves to lead them to another World Series. Are you kidding me with this rotation:

Clemens, Mussina, Petitte, Wells, Hernandez and Weaver ....WTF is that....that is just sick!
