The measure of each starter's average margin vs. total (Total Margin or '''TM''), which is then factored by the TM of their prior opponents. A negative TMD number (<0) suggests UNDER. A positive TMD number (>0) suggests OVER.
During the regular season, all games with a TMD i;;<-1.55, or >1.40, were listed as qualifying candidates for totals play, with an official selection normally chosen from one of the qualifiers. For post-season play, TMD rating for all games will be posted, with only an occasional official selection. First targeted MLB totals selection was OVER 8.5 in NY Mets at LA Dodgers, Game 3 (Trachsel vs. Maddux), a 9-5 winning result.
