NY Rangers at Dallas

NY Rangers at Dallas

NYR 11-16-2 away (27-27-4 for season)
Dallas 10-13-5 at home (25-24-7 overall)

NYR haven't won in Dallas since Dec '96 (five meetings)

Dallas is 3-6-1 last 10. "Scoring one goal in four of those games, and two goals in three of them", sez AP.

Dallas is 1-5 ATS in first home game after a multiple game road trip.

NYR 5-5 last 10. or 3-10-1-1 last 15. But on a two game winning streak now, beat AT and Pitt. Played a close one with Detroit. In these three games since All-Stars, NYR have been more disciplined and tightened defense. 2 of these 3 went under.

One meeting this season, NYR won 4-2 at home (10/29)

Dallas has allowed at least one PP goal in nine of last 10 games.

NYR have 7 members going to Olympics after this game, Dallas has four.

NYR defenseman Dale Purinton comes of 3 game suspension tonight

NYR second to FL in penalty minutes in league, but PK has improved last 5 to 85.0 (78.8 on season).

well talk about some close games yesterday, if i'm not mistaken all but 2 were decided by 1 goal with 4 going to OT. reiterates the concept of money management during this time--

from chi paper--

Hawks center Tyler Arnason, will be making his NHL debut centering for Mark Bell and Igor Korolev on the third line. The son of former NHL player Chuck Arnason has been piling up points for the Hawks' AHL farm team in Norfolk, he leads Norfolk in goals with 23 and assists with 29..

Before being recalled Monday, Arnason had played four games in five nights for Norfolk and his whirlwind schedule is ongoing. He will play in the AHL All-Star Game on Thursday night in St. John's, Newfoundland, then rejoin Norfolk for three games in as many nights---he's expected to return to Chicago after the Olympic break--

det news--

Brent Gilchrist is preparing himself for the next phase of his career.
The veteran forward was placed on waivers Monday afternoon by the Red Wings when Steve Yzerman was activated from the injured list.
Teams have until noon today to claim Gilchrist. If he goes unclaimed, the Wings have the option of sending him to Cincinnati of the American Hockey League.
Gilchrist said Monday's news surprised him.
"It caught me by surprise," said Gilchrist, who doesn't expect to play with the Wings again. "But this is a business, a tough business. I realize that. I'm surprised in the fact I thought I was playing well, given the opportunity to play lately."
General Manager Ken Holland said the performance of center Sean Avery, 21, made Gilchrist, 34, expendable. Holland said depth in the organization up front, with young players such as Yuri Butsayev and Jason Williams, also made the decision to waive Gilchrist possible.

Goalie Manny Legace (hip flexor) was held out of practice. His status was to be re-evaluated today. Assistant coach Barry Smith said Legace will likely back up Hasek against Minnesota tonight

More Detroit and MN

More Detroit and MN

just edited MN/Det bit to clean up typo and correct home record.

Detroit road games decided by one goal or less: 8 of last 10
Detroit visits to MN decided by one goal or less: all three

11 of Detroit team going to Salt Lake after tonights game.
Hasek promises they will concentrate! Said they packed up Joe Louis Arena like it was the end of season.

MN papers say important Wild defenseman Bombardir "most likely out tonight", and Kuba out for a while. MN played OT on road last night.

Coach Lemaire quoted in Pioneer Press on OT tie "..was an exciting game, I would feel great if we didn't have to play Detroit (tonight).

Latvian Zohltok on Wild managed to concentrate enuf to score two last night as his country was eliminated from Olympics!

Ha! "Latvian Zohltok on Wild" sounds like I'm introducing a character on "Star Trek"!

The depleted MN defense last nite let 3 goals in from that offensive powerhouse known as Bluejackets. And MN themselves now have 7 goals in last two games.

Goalies

Goalies

Dallas Morning News sez "Belfour will probably start Wednesday".

He's been excellent lately, giving up no more than 2 goals in each of his last five starts. Should be sharp tonight, after losing duel with Potvin.

Almost all these goalies headed to Olympics (Richter, Dunham, Belfour, Brodeur, Cujo, those backup Finns, etc..) are riding hot streaks as paper sez.

I would expect Roloson in for MN, as Fernandez started last night.

Johnson (most probably) and Roy in Colorado (authors of that 1-0 game in oct)

"Esche will probably get the start" sez AZ Republic. (Burke has not played consecutive nights yet this season.)

The Dallas Stars brought back a familiar face on Wednesday, claiming veteran left wing Brent Gilchrist off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings.

The 34-year-old Gilchrist appeared in 19 games for the Red Wings this season, collecting one goal and one assist. He is expected to be available for Wednesday's home game with the New York Rangers.

In another move, the Stars placed veteran defenseman Dave Manson on waivers.

Sorry just got in...

Wings note

With all the stulff around Irbe not being allowed to play he said "the Red Wings were going to be resting their 3 best players the last game, what's the difference in that and letting me play when the team says it's ok"

Can't confirm it for sure, but check first

resting them? Thats an outrage! Only in hockey, which is why it will always be a third rate sport.

They didn't end up resting them, but Irbe had said there was talk that that's what the Wings were going to do.

Irbe got permission from his team to play for his country in the early games but Bettman wouldn't allow it and Irbe was fuming, maybe somewthing was said to Detroit, I don't know but the Wings have their regular lineup in.
