UConn -12 over Iona ***
Huskies leaving the AAC and going back to the Big East...but they came in 7th and 8th in the AAC conf... Hurley had a losing season last yr but he wasn't left with much talent...he has his backcourt back in Vital and Gilbert...Vital can shoot and Gilbert is a solid pt gd...he has 6'11 Carlton in the middle and 6'9 Polly who can score and rebound.. 6'9 Akok and Boughnight are new and can rebound and score...Akok can become an impact player blocking shots and rebounding.. Iona is the same.. Tim No Cluess won his 4th MAAC title and went to the NCAA's again..his teams play uptempo and can;t play defense but he just out scores you.. Crawford is the best player in the MAAC A 6'6 gd-fd who can shoot..Agee is a 6'9 scorer and rebounder Gist is a 5'10 perfect pt gd to run the Iona uptempo..they are very weak in the front court and can get away with it in the MAAC since no one else has a front line...but Huskies have some beef inside and they should dominate the paint..and they have solid gds so think Iona has trouble getting stops and Huskes play better defense ...Also McGill graduated finally and he was Iona's superstar who when ever Iona needed a basket had the ball in his hands...think Hurley plays Crawford tight and Iona could be in trouble.
Houston -12.5 over Texas St ***
After last season the Coogs won over 30 games..but Sampson has done a great job recruiting and getting KU's Grimes eligible.. what an addition since the 6'5 gd is avg 16 pts a game already..Coogs have 4 or 5 other guys all avg 10 or more pts..White and Mills can score.. Jarreau is avg 11 pts and has 17 assists..inside they have White,Harris,Gresham and power fd Gorham.. these guys are 6'7,6'8 and 6'10
Bobcats are much smaller play aggressive man to man and try to let Pearson get open..he is the pre-season POY of the Sun Conf but after seeing him in his last 3 games teams are pressuring him big time..in the 3 games I saw him he had 2,3,and 4 pts in the 1st half...he is now avg 16 pts a game but having trouble scoring..but the key to Tx St is there post play..there top player Terry has been awful..he was benched the other night for his terrible offense and defense.. Sule a 6'7 fd came in and scored..Bobcats are run by 5'8 Harrell at the pt..really a great penetrator but gets lost sometimes in the land of the giants.. Bobcats have beaten some weaker teams and plays with them until a few minutes left..they cannot do that vs the Coogs ..Bobcats did play Baylor 2 weeks ago tough and only lost to them by 9.. they are 6-1 but lets not forget there playing at home and beating Tex Luthren,Pair View AM,Jackson St,Abilene Christine and Hartford. And in almost every game with 10 minutes left it was a tight game.. with Grimes and company think Bobcats have a tough time trying to keep up and stopping some of the Coogs inside players...
