UNC (-23) over UVA
Tarheels finally get back into the Dean dome after a tough 3 game road trip including a loss. The Tar Heels raced to a 31-point lead in the first meeting, leading 62-26 at halftime. BUT that game just gives the Heels reasons to look past UVA, and is not good for Heel backers. However Coach Williams is quick to step on UNC's ego and get them back and focused, especially trailing #1 in the ACC behind by 1 loss. UVA has started to use a three-guard lineup featuring Sean Singletary, T.J. Bannister and J.R. Reynolds. Helps UVA's ball handling but hurts them rebounding, playing defense and depth off the bench. UNC counters with taller ball handlers that can keep the UVA guards under wraps, while being able to post up (McCants especially).
A big factor in my mind is the Cav's performance on the road and the heels play at home. UVA has lost AT GT by 23, Duke by 14, Maryland by 14 and Providence by 19! Not to mention UVA has lost 6 out of 8 road games. UNC at home has played outstanding, beating Kentucky by 13, Maryland by 34, GT by 22, NC st by 24 and Miami by 20!
The heels like to start strong and if UNC opens up a lead on UVA, the cav's will fold. Hopefully the Dean dome fans will energize the heels to jump all over UVA. THANK YOU ESPN, turning this into the "80's retro night" game, that will get the fans juiced up even more. UNC Close games against Duke and UConn should have the heels sharp and focused coming into tonight. Teams like UConn and Duke can slow the tempo down and force UNC to play outside their game plan. UVA does not have that ability and UNC will turn up the defensive pressure and force turn-overs leading to dunks and points. UVA's head coach was quoted as saying the last time these two played UVA was scared "playing with heads down". That was @UVA, how do you think they feel going to UNC in a hostile environment. Too much talent, height and speed for UVA to contend against tonight. If it gets out of hand the heels back-ups will run by the tired and uninspired UVA line up.
