PHILADELPHIA DAAL-L 8.5ov
MONTREAL VASQUEZ-R 125
I will play DAAL

Philadelphia is 16-3 when Daal starts and the left-hander is 4-1 with a 3.98 ERA on the road this season.

PHILLIES PROBABLE STARTER: Daal (10-2, 4.47 ERA). After going through a rough stretch, Daal has pitched well in his last two starts, including a solid effort in a 5-2 victory over Toronto on Friday. Daal allowed one earned run and four hits in seven innings. The left-hander had one of his poorest starts of the season against Montreal on June 3, allowing five runs and 10 hits in three innings of the Expos' 10-3 victory.

EXPOS PROBABLE STARTER: Javier Vazquez (8-9, 4.76 ERA). Vazquez has won his last three decisions, including Friday's 6-2 win over Tampa Bay. Vazquez allowed two runs and four hits in eight innings while striking out eight. The right-hander did not pitch well in his start against Philadelphia this season, allowing six runs in six innings on May 25. He did not factor in the decision of the Phillies' 10-8 win.

[FOR THURSDAY, GO AGAINST: An MRI performed on RHP Tony Armas Jr. Monday revealed no structural damage to his left knee. Armas, who is tied with RHP Vazquez for the team lead in wins with eight, will make his scheduled start against Philadelphia on Thursday]

FLORIDA SMITH-R 8
N.Y. METS APPIER-R 140
the UNDER again here for me

New York has won five of six since the All-Star break - allowing only seven runs in that span and throwing three shutouts Mets are riding a four-game winning streak New York pitchers extended their scoreless streak to 23 consecutive innings Tuesday in a 1-0 home win over Toronto.

Florida may be without its biggest base-stealing threat as second baseman Luis Castillo is hampered by back spasms

MARLINS PROBABLE STARTER: Chuck Smith (5-5, 4.73 ERA). Smith is coming off his best start of the season, an 11-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowing nine hits and striking out seven. The right-hander was 1-5 with a 7.50 ERA in his previous seven starts. He is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA lifetime against the Mets.

METS PROBABLE STARTER: Kevin Appier (5-9, 3.81 ERA). Appier saw his string of 16 shutout innings snapped in his last start, a 3-1 loss to Boston on Friday. The veteran right-hander allowed two runs in six innings. Appier is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his career against Florida.

959----*07:05 PM*--------*TIME CHANGE*------------------------
ST. LOUIS MATTHEWS-L 11un
HOUSTON OSWALT-R 185

The Astros have won seven of 10 and 15 of 21.

CARDINALS PROBABLE STARTER: Mike Matthews (3-4, 3.25 ERA). Matthews has been a spot starter for the Cardinals this season, going 2-4 with a 4.20 ERA in nine starts. The left-hander is coming off a poor performance in Friday's 4-1 loss to Detroit, allowing eight hits and three runs in 4 2-3 innings. Matthews has not surrendered a run against Houston this season in two relief appearances.

ASTROS PROBABLE STARTER: Roy Oswalt (8-1, 2.30 ERA). The rookie right-hander is 6-0 with a 2.44 ERA in his last seven starts. Oswalt has allowed just three runs over his last three starts, while walking three and striking out 24. In Friday's 11-3 win over San Diego, Oswalt yielded six hits and two earned runs in seven innings. Opponents are hitting just .220 this season against Oswalt, who is making his first career start against St. Louis.

ARIZONA SCHILLING-R 180
SAN DIEGO WILLIAMS-R 8un 7.5ov
The Pads team is an injured demoralized mess. The price is much higher than any of us like . . . and still a bargain.
SCHILLING for me.
963----10:10 PM-----------------------------------------------
MILWAUKEE LEVRAULT-R 7.5ov
LOS ANGELES PARK-R 220
Tough to go against CH at home or pay that much for LA vs Levrault who can throw a great game at any time.
Possibly a Schilling/Chan Ho CPP
965----10:15 PM-----------------------------------------------
COLORADO HAMPTON-L 9un 8.5ov
SAN FRANCISCO ORTIZ-R 125
Hampton has ruled the Giants in years past but this is Ortiz's year and home field.
GIANTS is the play.

The Rockies have lost 13 of their last 15 road games

ROCKIES PROBABLE STARTER: Hampton (9-6, 4.32 ERA). Hampton may have a good chance to snap his four-game losing streak, during which his ERA has risen from 2.98 to 4.32. He has dominated the Giants during his career, going 10-0 with a 2.96 ERA. The left-hander won his only start against them this year, tossing seven strong innings in a 6-1 win on May 25. Over the last month, however, he is 0-4 with an 8.13 ERA in six starts.

GIANTS PROBABLE STARTER: Russ Ortiz (10-5, 3.30 ERA). Ortiz has pitched well over the last month, allowing just nine runs over his last 42 innings. The right-hander has won his last two starts, including a 5-3 victory over Seattle on Friday. Ortiz is 1-0 in two starts against Colorado this season, allowing six runs in 13 1-3 innings.

BOSTON CONE-R 9.5ov
TORONTO PARRIS-R 110 UNDER
CONE and UNDER for me. Jays may get shutout here and may not be too focused.

Blue Jays - Because of a schedule quirk, Toronto goes home for two days before returning to New York to play the Yankees on Friday. The team is sending its road uniforms and some other equipment directly to Yankee Stadium. ... The Blue Jays are batting .202 with one homer since the All-Star break.

RED SOX PROBABLE STARTER: David Cone (5-1, 4.20 ERA). Cone, who is 5-0 in his last seven starts, hasn't lost since a 7-3 disappointment against the New York Yankees on May 23. The veteran right-hander enjoyed one of his best starts of the season on Friday in a 3-1 victory over the Mets, allowing three hits in 5 2-3 shutout innings. Cone is 8-7 with a 3.66 ERA in 21 career starts against the Blue Jays, including a 1-0 record in two outings this season.

BLUE JAYS PROBABLE STARTER: Steve Parris (4-5, 4.37 ERA). Parris has lost just once in the last month, but isn't getting much run support. The Blue Jays have scored just a combined 16 runs in his last six starts. The righty allowed two runs in six innings on Friday, but didn't get a decision in Toronto's 5-2 loss to Philadelphia. In four career starts against Boston, Parris is 0-1 with a 4.46 ERA.

N.Y. YANKEES LILLY-L
DETROIT LIMA-R

The New York Yankees have looked sluggish since the All-Star break. There is no telling how listless they will be when they play two games on little sleep.

After playing 25 innings in two days and then traveling from Philadelphia to Detroit, the Yankees will play a day-night doubleheader with the Tigers.

971----01:05 PM **GAME 1 DAY NIGHT DOUBLE HEADER**------------

Same thing here: HELLING in Game One and then TOWERS to take Game Two
TEXAS HELLING-R
BALTIMORE

The Rangers are making a quick turnaround following a 10-2 home loss to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday and have allowed 10 runs or more in three of their last seven games.

The Orioles are trying to regroup after suffering a three-game sweep at Florida. Baltimore suffered an 8-3 loss Tuesday, ending a dismal series in which it scored just four runs.

RANGERS GAME 1 PROBABLE STARTER: Rick Helling (6-8, 5.30 ERA). The veteran right-hander is trying to build off a solid start from Friday, when he limited the Colorado Rockies to one run and three hits over seven innings in a 10-3 triumph. Helling, who has won three of his last four decisions, has held opponents to two runs or less in five of his last seven starts. He is 4-5 with a 6.12 ERA in 12 lifetime starts against the Orioles.

ORIOLES GAME 1 PROBABLE STARTER: Sean Douglass (no record). The 22-year-old right-hander will make his major league debut. Douglass went 6-7 with a 3.92 ERA in 18 starts at Triple-A Rochester, striking out 101 in 103 1-3 innings. He has steadily climbed the minor league ranks since being a second-round pick in the 1997 draft and went 9-8 at Double-A Bowie in 2000.

RANGERS GAME 2 PROBABLE STARTER: Aaron Myette (0-1, 10.89 ERA). The right-hander is back in the starting rotation following three relief appearances earlier this month. Myette was hit hard by Colorado on Saturday, giving up five runs and six hits in just one inning. He failed to pitch five full innings in any of his three starts this season and is making his first-ever appearance against the Orioles.

ORIOLES GAME 2 PROBABLE STARTER: John Wasdin (0-0, 0.00 ERA). The right-hander makes his first start for the Orioles since being acquired in June following his release from Colorado. He made his only appearance for the Orioles on July 1, retiring one batter while giving up a hit and a walk against the Chicago White Sox. Wasdin is 3-2 with a 6.14 ERA lifetime against the Rangers.

CHICAGO W. SOX BUERLE-L 120
CWS and UNDER--look at the way their pitchers have shown up!

Indians may be without slugger Juan Gonzalez in the opener of a two-game series with the Chicago White Sox. X-rays on his left hand after being hit by reliever Jim Mann's pitch in the sixth inning of Tuesday's 10-4 victory over the Astros. The X-rays were negative and the team's RBI leader is day-to-day with a bruised left hand.

Chicago's starting pitchers have been a big part of the team's recent success, going 7-0 with a 2.00 ERA in the last eight games.

The Indians are 11-18 in day games and 41-21 in night games

INDIANS PROBABLE STARTER: C.C. Sabathia (8-3, 4.48 ERA). The Indians have been victorious in Sabathia's last three starts, including Friday's 5-1 win in Cincinnati. He struck out a career-high 11 batters - the most by a Cleveland rookie in seven years - and allowed four hits in 6 2-3 innings. The last Indians rookie to strike out 11 was Albie Lopez in 1994. This is his first start against the White Sox.

WHITE SOX PROBABLE STARTER: Mark Buehrle (7-4, 3.22 ERA). Buehrle is 6-1 with a 1.88 ERA over his last nine starts. He is coming off Friday's 7-2 road win over the Chicago Cubs, having allowed two runs and nine hits in eight innings while matching a season high with eight strikeouts. The left-hander won in relief in his only appearance against the Indians, tossing 1 1-3 scoreless innings last season.

977----08:05 PM-----------------------------------------------
SEATTLE MOYER-L 150
KANSAS CITY DURBIN-R 9.5ov 10un
Even with MOYER, I like SEATTLE'S trends here. I will play the M's
The Mariners are coming off a 4-2 homestand, keyed by a bullpen which has tossed 19 consecutive scoreless innings since the All-Star break. Seattle has yet to lose a series on the road this season (12-0-3).

Kansas City, which has lost four straight series overall, has dropped 11 of its last 13 games. All-Star. Mike Sweeney, who leads the team in numerous offensive categories, is mired in a 4-for-34 (.118) slump and has gone homerless in 13 straight games.

MARINERS PROBABLE STARTER: Jamie Moyer (9-5, 4.74 ERA). Moyer has lost four of his last five decisions, including his last two starts. He has given up five runs in each of his last three outings but the Seattle offense has not provided much support, scoring three runs or less in five of his last six starts. The veteran left-hander did not get a decision in his lone start against Kansas City this season, allowing three runs over 6 2-3 innings of a 5-4 Seattle win on May 27.

ROYALS PROBABLE STARTER: Chad Durbin (6-8, 4.90 ERA). Durbin has lost his last two decisions, but is coming off arguably his best start of the season. He pitched eight shutout innings in a 1-0 Kansas City loss at Pittsburgh on Friday. The right-hander had given up 12 runs in his previous 7 1-3 innings. Durbin got shelled for six runs and eight hits in three innings of a 13-3 loss to Seattle on May 25

OAKLAND HUDSON-R 115
MINNESOTA RADKE-R 8.5ov 8.5un UNDER
------------------
OK, Hudson's wife is due to deliver any minute. I will play him and the UNDER today. Inspired and wearing a beeper just in case. Not worried about missing the delivery. Then, using my "Inspired Dad Theory" I will play him next start 2X and then go against (Tired Dad Theory) for two next starts. It works.
