Ok, All Star game lineups announced last night. That means you look for starters who got snubbed (Aaron Sanchez, Quintana, Scherzer, Pomeranz). They'll be better than usual in next start (more so if they have a big ego), and also in 1st start after the All Star break - especially if they are a starting pitcher snubbed for All Star matched up in a game against a starting pitcher who is on the All Star squad.
and look for starters who are on the short list for last minute All Star consideration - needing one last excellent start to impress. Jacob deGrom is perfect candidate for that today. Due to bad luck he has only 4 wins on the season, unlike his gas can pitching opponent today, Nicolino - it is rather amazing Nicolino has a whopping 4 actual wins!
Oakland has lost 6 of Sonny Gray's last 7 starts, and 10 of 11 starts he'd had on 4 days rest...
Tanner Roark has a 1.69 ERA in day games this season, last season he had 3.74 (vs 4.79 at nights...2014 season he did not display this split)...Roark is using his sinker much more, as he has raised the release point on his sinker and has increased the vertical movement on it this season.
Brewers are 2-7 in Garza's last 9 starts overall, and 1-6 in his last 7 road starts.
Goood luck everyone!! :firing: :toast:

ripped, cut and pasted, otherwise written by others, from across the internets:
Fulmer is the first Tiger since at least 1913, and the first Major League rookie since Christy Mathewson in 1901, to allow one earned run or none in eight consecutive starts. He gave up five runs in five innings at Cleveland May 5.
Tomlin... has been terrific this season, sporting a 9-1 record with a 3.21 ERA and an excellent 1.09 WHIP in 95.1 innings pitched. He has already faced the Tigers three times this season and has looked fantastic, wining all three starts, allowing just three runs in 20.2 innings pitched
Atlanta's six-game win streak was snapped Wednesday, but Braves fans may have caught a glimpse of the future in Tyrell Jenkins. Jenkins, the Braves' No. 7 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, twirled a scoreless eighth inning in his Major League debut in the club's 3-0 loss to the Marlins at Marlins Park.
After his fastball sat in the 92-93-mph range to his first few hitters, Jenkins pumped it up to 96 to his last batter, who could barely catch up to the heat. A first-round pick by St. Louis in 2010, Jenkins came to Atlanta along with Shelby Miller in the Jason Heyward trade in Nov. 2014. He was called up this season from Triple-A Gwinnett on June 16 after going 6-3 with a 2.91 ERA in 14 appearances this season, nine of which were starts.
Justin Nicolino..puts a lot of pressure on the Marlins bullpen and needs to start going longer in games. His WHIP of 1.55 and his batting average against is .326 are both astronomical. It?s actually amazing he only has four losses.
Sonny Gray - 6.0 IP, 7 ER, 7 Hits, 1 BBs, 4 Ks. Pittsburgh has been really bad in the last month - 28th in wOBA - and Gray allows a crooked 7 spot after looking bad against the Rangers. Can't someone please step up and rebound this season? So Gray has performed well since returning, but only against weak teams...Gray is 0-6 with a 6.63 ERA in 11 starts since April 21 and 0-2 with a 4.42 ERA in six outings since returning from the disabled list June 5.
Adam Warren threw 51 pitches in two innings of relief on Sunday against the Pirates. He made 17 starts last season with the Yankees, and has made 20 starts in his career...has a 5.38 FIP......He?s going 25.2 innings in his 25 appearances so I?m not sure how long the Cubs expect him to go. I?d be shocked if he made it to five innings and three innings seems more likely. He has 14 walks in the 25.2 innings and only has 18 K?s so he?s hardly a strike out pitcher.
Ian Kennedy has seven losses this season, six of those have been on the road, where his ERA is 5.37.
Kansas City is 1-11 in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a winning home record
Whoa whoa whoa, Marcus Stroman actually performed well?! He sure did Bob, with a solid line of 6.2 IP, 1 ER, 5 Hits, 1 BBs, 6 Ks against the Tribe. Now I will not tell you that he's figured it out and is now a must add blah blah blah. I will say that he used his Slider more (the most all season near 30%) and got a bunch more whiffs with it and that's cool. He's still not getting nearly the type of movement on his Sinker that he had last season (over three inches less horizontal movement!), and I wouldn't put weight into this, unfortunately. Once I see the movement return to his heater, then we'll talk.
In his career Stroman is now 11-3 with a 3.45 ERA in 26 games (22 starts) at the Rogers Centre and 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA in six starts in July, while vs the Royals he is 1-0 with a 1.50....That said, he has had his moments a few times in the first half, only to follow a strong effort up with a clunker....
Drew Smyly continues to be one of the more frustrating arms..His 10.9 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 are elite, but the lefty's 1.8 HR/9 harpooned his first half. Let's take the glass half-full angle: He's healthy, the velocity is fine, and he has pitched into the seventh inning in three of his past four outings. But what about that 1.8 HR/9, which is even worse considering he allowed seven homers in his first eight starts and then 12 in the ensuing eight? The Los Angeles Angels visit Tropicana Field as Smyly embarks on his second half. The Halos don't whiff much...
Pineda..is sporting stellar peripherals, with a 10.9 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9, but he's serving up too many long balls, as evidenced by a 1.5 HR/9. In a vacuum, Pineda's walk and whiff rates are elite, but he isn't lasting deep into games...The right-hander has pitched into the seventh only once this season. Chicaco Saux check in with a below average weighted on base average (wOBA) albeit with an average strikeout rate versus righties.
LeBlanc says dominating his first major-league outing after a nearly two-year hiatus was a product of his time with the Seibu Lions in Japan last season.
?(In Japan) I learned a lot in terms of what kind of pitcher I am and what kind of pitcher I need to be,? LeBlanc said.
Locke is 3-4 with a 7.16 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in nine road starts this season.
Jaime Garcia ended his first half on a strong note, as he tossed eight strong against the Milwaukee Brewers, though the effort was tainted by four free passes. Truth be told, the St. Louis Cardinals left-hander's control has been spotty this season and has led to his highest WHIP since 2012. Garcia opens his second half with a challenge, as the Pittsburgh Pirates visit Busch Stadium. The Bucs are very productive versus southpaws, but they're also strikeout-prone. The combination, along with the Redbirds' potent attack facing Jeff Locke...the Cardinals' "keep the line moving" offense is the type that gives Locke fits
Angels vs. Rays
Pick: Rays
The Los Angeles Angels rested Mike Trout on Tuesday (he pinch-ran late in the game) but pounded out 16 hits in a 13-5 win at Tampa Bay. The Angels victory was just their THIRD in 15 games, leaving them 34-50, which is better than only the Twins in the AL. As for the Rays, they have dropped 17 of their last 20 games to fall into last place in the AL East at 34-49. The teams continue their four-game series Wednesday, as the the Angels send Jered Weaver (6-7, 5.51 ERA) to the mound to oppose Tampa Bay?s Drew Smyly (2-9, 5.33 ERA).
Weaver threw a three-hit shutout against Oakland back on June 19 but over his last two outings has allowed 10 ERs on 15 hits over 10 innings (9.00 ERA). He gave up eight HRs in six June starts and has allowed 20 on the season, placing him among the major league leaders. Weaver is 5-5 with a 3.64 ERA in 13 career starts vs the Rays with the Angels going 6-7. Smyly is winless in his last eight starts (0-5 / team is 2-6), permitting at least four runs six times during that stretch. Smyly also has had trouble with the home run ball, giving up 19 in 2016 over 16 starts.
Two struggling teams will feature starters who are having AWFUL seasons. I?ll take the home team, as the Angels may just wish that they had saved some of Tuesday?s hits (16) and runs (13) for this one.
Brewers at Nationals
Pick: Under
This is a good pitcher's park and a pair of veterans who throw strikes are on the mound. Matt Garza is on the hill for Milwaukee with the team 5-2 under the total when he starts. The Under is 6-1 in Garza's last 7 starts vs. a team with a winning record. Washington is a big park and Tanner Roark (2.93 ERA) has a 2.29 ERA at home. Roark received no decision Friday versus the Reds, despite a solid start. He gave up eight hits, two earned runs and two walks over seven innings in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning victory over the Reds. And the Under is 11-4-1 in Roark's last 16 starts overall.
Hottest pitcher: Wade LeBlanc, Mariners (1-0, 1.50 ERA)
LeBlanc hadn?t taken the mound in a Major League game since 2014 when the Mariners brought on the southpaw in late June. With all the injuries to the Seattle pitching staff, LeBlanc has turned into a solid addition by tossing 12 innings in two starts, allowing a total of six hits and two earned runs as the M?s beat the Cardinals and Orioles at home. LeBlanc faces an Astros? squad that has scored a total of three runs in its last two home games against left-handed starting pitchers.
Coldest pitcher: Drew Smyly, Rays (2-9, 5.33 ERA)
Things aren?t getting better for Tampa Bay, who suffered a 13-5 loss to Los Angeles on Tuesday even though Angels? star Mike Trout didn?t even start. Smyly has been knocked around of late, giving up 18 runs and 24 hits in his last three starts, all Tampa Bay losses. The Rays? left-hander has yet to record a victory at Tropicana Field this season, while Tampa Bay is 2-5 in his seven home starts. The only good news for the Rays is the Angels have won consecutive road games only once since late May.
Biggest OVER run: Diamondbacks (6-0 last six)
In spite of playing in front of the smallest crowd in Chase Field history last night, Arizona?s bats woke up by plating seven runs in a 7-5 victory over San Diego. The D-backs cashed their sixth consecutive ?over? on this homestand, but Arizona?s pitching has allowed at least five runs in each of the past six contests. The Padres may keep that streak alive tonight as Shelby Miller tries to end his struggles on the hill for Arizona. Miller has given up 19 hits and 12 earned runs in his last two starts, while the D-backs are 1-6 in his seven outings at Chase Field.
