The college football season kicks off today at 6:00 EST with BC and Central Michigan. The betting public is eager to throw down a wager on this nationally televised contest, and it appears it is wagering on the wrong side at an alarming rate. I'm showing almost 80% of the money on Boston College, yet the line has moved from 13 down to 11 in some places. This game has SUCKER written all over it! I was talking to an ex-colleague earlier this morning, and he said, "Make sure you go big on Boston College tonight, the Eagles are a lock!" I said, "Give me one good reason why I should?" He said, "Trust me on this one, BC has a better offense." If that isn't the biggest square rationale for a pick I have ever heard! My first pick of the new season is an easy one. Give me Central Michigan plus the points. Back later with more!

A few things you may not know about the Chippewas:

*coming off first winning season since 1998.
*won 6 of last 8 games in 2005.
*6-3-2 ATS in 2005.
*four of the five losses in 2005 were by a TD or less.
*outgained its opponents by 21.9 YPG and ranked at or near the top of the MAC in rushing offense and defense in 2005.
*14 returning starters, 7 on both sides of the ball.

Marra, no doubt about it, but I'm not saying Central Michigan is going to win straight up, I'm betting that BC isn't 11 points better than the Chippewas, especially on the road in the season opener for both teams.

not to mention that they play a huge conference home game next week vs. Clemson. the playbook won't be opened up to extensively for the Eagles I wouldn't think

DeadPrez, that's a great point! I like the way you think. Not to mention, don't you think Central Michigan will be fired up for a non-conference opponent the caliber of Boston College a little bit more than the Eagles will be for a team that was 6-5 in the MAC last year? Don't forget, this game is on national TV! How many times will CMU play in the spotlight this year?

absolutely I do as I have backed CMU tonite also. CMU will be giving it their all while BC will be going thru the motions trying not to get anyone hurt. That Clemson game next week is huge.

Did I mention that the public is backing BC at about 79% and the line has dropped from BC -13.5 where it opened to BC -11 now.

Also BC has some injury concerns. Their starting DE Ramella is out and they have listed as questionable a starting WR (Gonzalez), LB (Pruitt), and DT (Raji) as well as Andre Callender (RB). this could be linked to the line dropping as well but I like where we stand w/ the home dog.

good luck RTL :SIB

That is very interesting...I just saw the consensus report and the line is dropping...now I might need to put a unit on it.

Good call on Central Mich. I can't believe BC gave up a 21 point lead. That was the only game I lost last night. Ended up +2 units instead of +6 units because of that damn game!

Leans for Saturday:

Northern Illinois +17

Ohio State will be a huge public play all season long. The Buckeyes are picked to win it all by the so-called "experts." The linemakers will compensate by inflating the lines against lesser competition.

Utah +3

Wrong team favored here. Don't worry about Utah backup QB Ratliff, he was expected to battle Johnson for the job anyway.

Florida Atlantic +32

Like BC last night, I can't see Clemson opening up the playbook in this game. The Tigers will play it conservative, which will make it even more difficult for them to cover this huge spread. Showdown with BC next week.

These are just leans at this point. I haven't decided to play any of these yet. I'll be back tomorrow morning with my official plays. Good luck to everyone this weekend!
