Oregon St (+8) over Boise
Interesting that Boise on the smurf turf is worth a full TD to a team that returns 16 starters. The beavers have a VERY good offensive line all 5 players return and have done well in the offseason to get better. Bernard and JUCO transfer Polk offer a rushing combination that is extremely talented. Moore returns at QB but he has talent and pressure behind him so he has to play well or he will be pulled for Canfield ( a very strong armed QB that has done nothing but gain confidence and playing ability over the past years. Wheat-Brown and Sammie Strougher are solid options at Wr and can stretch the field. They need to stay healthy and the Oregon state offense can be very effective running and passing this season. One of the best players for the beavers is TE Newton, he is a good blocker and can take over the middle of the field making it impossible for a team to try and take away the run. His ability to get open on play action and be a big down chain mover is very important in this offense. Orsow and Smith need to play better on the defensive line but they have the ability to get a solid pass rush if they play to ability. This is very important with cornerbacks that were burned on a regular basis last season. Hughes and Lewis were freshman last year and should get better with a year of experience under their belt but still not typical shut down corners. Piscitelli at Safety is a good player and should only get better not having to cover the freshman corners mistakes this season. The good news is this LB corp is surprisingly tough considering they do not have a stand out player. Doggett, Darlin and LaRocque had a very good spring and should continue to be the heart of this defense. Hawkins is gone from the sideline of Boise but the offensive power still remains. This team has a good line and overall experience but Zabransky has been known to make mistakes all too often. This is still a very good offense and the Beavers will have their hands full trying to limit the big plays. The defense also has a lot of talent returning. They have a talented group of linebackers and some returning players in the secondary that may be capable of making big plays. Still the Boise defense gave up a lot of passing yards last year and considering the balance of the beavers offense Boise will be guessing a lot in this game. Oregon St can move the ball and so can Boise it will come down to mistakes and misplays. Still this is a lot of chalk considering the returning talent for both teams and how effective the beavers can be. Boise is always tough at home but the Beavers will stay with them using the playaction pass and Benson keeping the Linebackers honest. Boise did surprising well against the run last year but that is due to WAC teams leaning more on passing than running and Oregon St will look to establish run then pass. Should be a good game with a lot of scoring but the beavers should stay with Boise and IMO might even put out the victory. Don't forget that Oregon st has an All American kicker and will be dangerous from inside the 40.In a game with such taent special teams should play a big part and I have to give the edge to Oregon St. Taking the points and will put a small play on them to win.

pt1gard - he isn't the greatest from distance but he was like 23/28 FG and 32/32 Extra point. That LSU game was two years ago and I'm not sure if that was him. But if it was he was a freshman and being a freshman in deathvalley with the game on the line would be tough. Still he is a preseason Lou Groza (sp) canidate.

This game should be a good gauge to see where both of these teams stand. My initial thought is that it should fall under the number, in terms of
taking the points with the Beavers. However, with Boise at home on that ridiculous blue carpet,
it's always hard to tell......I tend to believe that it's
a 3 or 4 point game....I like OOO-SSSS-UUU

VT (-11.5) over UNC
Carolina did not look very good against Rutgers and VT should be coming into this game fresh off an a$$ chewing by beamer. VT was not as impressive as beamer wanted his team to be in the opening game and he voiced that and his team should respond. And the player that needs to respond above and beyond the call is the left tackle Graham, this freshman needs to step up to replace a top member of the line. Joe Dailey looked poor in his first game as the UNC signal caller and if he felt the defense for rutgers was swarming he is in for a long day. The UNC crowd will get behind its team and they will play better but still IMO not up to the caliber of VT. Glennon looked very solid throwing the ball and with a little more protection should be a playmaker considering the speed and talent VT has at WR. I would like to see Ore have a big game but considering the struggles within the o-line that might not happen. Still Beamer is a very good coach and will build off what happened last week. That means his line should come in better and his players will respond. This could mean a lot of trouble for the UNC defense that allowed rutgers run and pass with ease. I am interested to see the VT defense and how they pressure Dailey knowing he makes mistakes when pressured the VT defense will look to get all over him early and often. This is not the same team from VT as last year but they are still a solid team that is well coached and they should come out on a mission with a chip on their shoulders. I am not sold on the UNC defense and a solid mix of passing and screens should loosen up the defense and Ore can grind the ball down field. Glennon will open the field up if he continues to show accuracy and even in UNC (with a lot of chalk) I like the hokies to play more aggressive and prevail.

3rd Quarter OVER (14)
Hope the Beaver LB's are getting an ear full, that is the poorest I have seen a group of backers play at a high college level in years.

Pitt (-8) over Cincy
Pitt looked like a different team against UVA and they should continue against Cincy. The bearcats are not a strong team and lack overall playmakers on either side. The bearcats rotate QB?s and both have ability but rotating QB?s takes away for the ability to develop a rhythm. Cincy did shutout its last team but it was an 1-AA team and this is a different challenge. This Pitt team will play with a bit more confidence and this is a dangerous thing considering they did make waves two years ago in the division. Palko showed the ability to command the offense and limit mistakes and he should continue this play against Cincy. The Pitt defense will play hard nosed and swarm around the ball making it nasty out there for the skill positions on Cincy. The running and passing game will play off each other and the bearcat defense will be exposed. I am not saying the bearcats will roll over but the panthers will try to run over this team. Super Dave is still a bad coach but he has the players and attitude to beat the bearcats in almost all aspects on offense and defense. This game will be interesting because Pitt came out fired up in their first game and I am wondering if they can do the same in this contest. If they are motivated and start to play with confidence they will be the team of two years ago not the quad from last season.

Iowa (-19) over Cuse
The orange have gone done hill over the past few season and this would not be a good time to get a Frenetz team that returns its QB and running back. One year ago, Iowa followed a 56-0 win against Ball State with a 23-3 loss to Iowa State in its next game en route to a disappointing 7-4 season. So he has enough to get his boys motivated for this game and give Cuse all they can handle. Wake Forest beat Syracuse and Iowa is a far better team. Patterson is not a very good decision maker and hasn?t show to be the best passer although his records say else wise. Against Wake Patterson went 1-5 in the 2nd half for no yards and fumbled 2 snaps, this is not how a senior and returning starter begins the season with confidence. Cuse completed a nice 28% of its passes for 45 yards last week, the Iowa defense is reloading but the are fast, stronger and smarter than the overall defense for Wake and this gives a big advantage to the hawkeyes. I expect the defense to get pressure and Patterson hold the ball way to much and gets scared in the pocket, this will lead to sacks and long conversions which even at home is going to be tough for Cuse. Albert Young and Drew Tate have enough to lead the offense to a better start than last week and working out the bugs last week means they should be in a better rhythm in this game. This is a lot of chalk and a scary play giving a home team this many points but I have watched Cuse play and I just don?t think they can be effective on either side of the ball while Iowa is looking to continue building on its solid start.

Slowing down on the quarter plays

Clemson (-2) over BC
The tiger defense took a huge hit with the loss of waters. Still Proctor in his opener looked very sharp and they moved the ball with ease through the air. This will be where BC struggles with Clemson. The chips were able to toss the ball on BC and Clemson has a lot more speed and Talent at WR. Don?t forget Davis and Merriweather combined for over 150 rushing the ball and that type of balance will be an issue for the BC defense. BC struggled to run the ball last game and the offensive line did not look as good as once thought this year. Playing in BC is no easy task but the overall speed will hurt BC on offense and defense. Clemson will look to some unproven LB?s but I still expect these young kids to come in and play well. Clemson just flat out hammered a bad team and BC struggled with a so-so team and this will be an interesting match up. Matt Ryan is a very good QB and he has talent running and throwing but I think the Tigers defense and different blitzes will get him uncomfortable. This is key because if Ryan has time he can beat you. On short yardage BC will use their LB to get the yards and Clemson has to jump the gap and the LB?s have to hit him and hit him hard in the backfield. This is a tough task but the Tigers can do it. They have a solid defensive line and I would hope to see them step up with injured Waters out. Proctor must step up and use all his WR?s and once he gets 1v1 coverage Stuckey and Taylor must make plays. Proctor cannot try to force balls into coverage and get out on top of the eagles. Take Whitworth out of the game, force Ryan to win the game. He will give them a chance but will make a turnover if the pressure is up and the defense flies around.
