Couple of high school games this afternoon, but nothing really jumping off the paper on any of them.... Made a couple of plays though for chits and giggles.

Vestavia Hills pk
Hewitt-Trussville 55'

Huskies burned me the last time I played them against Hoover. Vestavia Rebels have jumped out to a 5-1 record and have a nice W over Spain Park (45-7). Sr QB Eli Sawyer is a good size kid (6'3"-215 lb) and has done a great job of managing the games they've played in. His stats don't scream D1 but 687 yards passing (56%) is certainly respectable. Vestavia came out strong on offense in their first 3 games but have cooled their jets. Team avr 96.2 rush & 114.5 pass yards per game. Those numbers don't support juggernaut.

Hewitt-Trussville sits at 4-2 but took a big shiner two weeks ago to Spain Park (L 31-28)....on those numbers alone it would appear Vestavia has the edge, especially at a pick. Huskies will try to keep the ball on the ground where they average 250.8 ypg rush and only 159 receiving yards. The key here is their All Star caliber RB Armoni Goodwin (Auburn ride) is out with a season ending knee injury..... Starting QB Cade Carruth (6' 190 lbs) has a big upside but he's only a Soph and has only passed for 695 yards...... D1-bound WR Dazalin Worsham has 40 catches through the 6 games but I don't expect to see H-T passing too much tonight.

Both Defenses are probably the teams strength..... This number looks a bit high to me so.....

Something to add- Hewitt is decimated with injuries and have started 3 different QB's the last 6 games. I want to play the road team so much just cannot bring myself. Will tail the under.

I played STM +5.5 and the over in the other game.

Nice to see some love being spread to Louisiana High School Football and we get to see two of the states best play tonight *providing you aren't watching the Yanks/Twins game..

Catholic B-R Bears have appeared in 3 of the past 4 Div 1 State Championship games (won the crown in 2015 & 2017)...Over the past 4 years, St Thomas More Cougars have only 10 total losses, however, 4 of those losses were to Catholic. Last year, Cougars had pulled out to a quick 29 point lead only to see the Bears come back and win a 52--43 decision. It was a heart breaking loss and considering the Bears have owned the series, you have to wonder if that confidence wasn't significantly shaken and stays in the back of their minds. Cougars are playing up in Class here and this is their final non-district game this season and they have had this one circled since last year.

Cougars were 11-2 last year (one of those losses was to C. B-R) They have one of the top QBs in the State Sr Caleb Holstein (6'5" 215 lbs) and has already filed some nice numbers, passing for 1283 yards w/15 TDs (64%) on 84 of 131 attempts. The kid was the 4A Off MVP and has garnered much attention but is taking his talents to Harvard (smart guy too). Sr TE Luke Howard (6'3" 230 lbs) is his biggest target (McNeese St).... *I should add that Holstein put up some unreal stats last year passing for 3,846 yards w/47 TDs (only 7 INT). Cougars set program records ly passing for 300 ypg and scoring on average 59.2 ppg...... They have decent talent spread out on both sides of the ball and several D1 talented bound athletes. Their HC Jim Hightower is the 2nd winningest Coach in LA (439-215-1)....He is Hall of Fame bound in Louisiana lore.

Catholic Bears are 4-0 and as I've already mentioned, seem to have Cougs #. The OL has 3 returning All-State players and while they had to replace the QB this year, they have most of their skill positions back from last year's 12-2 record. The QB Jackson Thomas has passed for 486 yards, but Bears are definitely run heavy...... I think the offense is still developing their identity, but it's the Defense that stands out to me only giving up 61 points in their 4-0 start..... The Dline and LBs are the strength and will certainly be blitz happy tonight, especially since Holsteins Achilles Heal has been a -46 yards (dropped for loss) and not really a threat to take off. The secondary is a concern as Bears replace all CB/S so that needs to be noted.

While I could certainly see this game going the same as last year, I think this high total is only a reflection 2of last year's 95 points scored. The Bears will pin their ears back and bring the heat so it should be interesting to see how Holstein reacts here. A big danger for Catholic is a possible look ahead next week to a big league game against Ascension......

I like the fact that Cougars are getting points here at home with the best QB and Coach on the field, but I don't like the fact Bears don't seem to lose in this developing rivalry.

Did you notice what 5dimes did today? They took FCS bets the whole week and then today they reset all their lines to the opening lines basically ignoring the line movement through the week. Assholes...

Interesting... 5Dimes keeps waiting until the last minute to put up their HSF lines which has hindered my research time...... Of course, FCS/FBS comes first for me......I made a play on Knoxville last night but was running late, so didn't get a chance to post...

Yes, we hit KC last night... I also had the Tompkins over... Debated and debated with myself but did not play Tompkins...

Yes they are starting to play games. We have hit them pretty damn hard in FCS though. They reset lines today is a new thing. They have not done that before. It really impacts shit. But c'est la vie. Just keep grinding.
