National Football League Picks

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New York Jets on Oct 9 2005 1:00PM

Prediction: New York Jets

Reason: The Bucs quite simply do not deserve to be road favorites. Tampa Bay is the biggest fraud among the undefeated teams. Minnesota self destructed against the Bucs in Week 1, a game the Vikings easily could have won. The Bills self destructed in similar fashion in Week 2, young JP Losman struggling mightily in the first road start of his NFL career. The Bucs finished +3 in turnovers against the Packers at Green Bay in Week 3, but still couldn?t cover the pointspread as a road favorite, when 92% of NFL teams with a +3 turnover margin cover the pointspread.

Last week, Jon Gruden?s club got a mystifying instant replay reversal to win the game against the hapless Lions, but still couldn?t cover the pointspread. The 1-3 Jets are in absolute desperation mode, and their defense is still a top notch unit, whether Vinnie Testaverde can run this offense or not. Look for the Jets ?D? and their overall intensity to be difference makers here in this ?must win? game, making New York as a very live underdog on Sunday.

I couldn't agree more SC. Liked the look of this right out of the blocks for the saem reasons. TB aren't the undefeated team they appear to be on the surface and I think the jets make this more than a game on sunday. Joining you on this one.

I can see Vinnie coming out and going balls to the wall throwing deep. I think the Bucs secondary is overrated, and they will probably get beaten deep a couple times. Jets will probably get a defensive score to go along with that :)

I'm guessing close game. Going to be up to Griese imo.

National Football League Picks

Tennessee Titans @ Houston Texans on Oct 9 2005 1:00PM

Prediction: Houston Texans

Reason: This is the week that it finally comes together for the Texans. They made major strides against undefeated Cincinnati last week, look for them to build on that performance and notch their first victory of the season on Sunday.

Houston was down by just three points and driving in the final minutes of last week's loss at Cincinnati. A questionable call on a David Carr fumble ended any hopes of them stealing that game. This week they return home to face a Titans squad that has shown few signs of life this season. Tennessee's young defense was schooled by Peyton Manning and the Colts last week and I question how they'll respond this Sunday.

Houston was able to play well in a hostile environment in Cincinnati last week, thanks in large part to the return of a solid ground game. They actually outgained the Bengals in the rushing department and were able to move the ball at will during several impressive drives. New offensive coordinator Joe Pendry has helped give them a new fundamental approach, one that resulted in far fewer mistakes in last week's game.

The Texans had a positive attitude following their most recent loss. David Carr once again couldn't find the endzone, but believes the tide is starting to turn. "I felt like we were playing to our potential today. I just wish we had a win to go along with that feeling. But I'm happy that our guys are playing with some confidence." That confidence should serve them well in this their second home game of the season.

Houston has taken the last three meetings in this series ATS, including a 10-point home victory last November. They give their home faithful something to cheer about this week.

Take Houston.-

We hope you enjoyed last week?s POWER FREe-PLAY with the NY Giants easily covering the spread against the St. Louis Rams who qualified for a ?Play AGAINST? POWER SYSTEM, coming off a SU win & ATS loss.

That improved the POWER FREe-PLAY to 5-1 on the season.

WEEK 5 FREE NFL POWER SYSTEM

As NFL fans know, the Indianapolis Colts have been one of the best teams in the league recently, featuring a high-powered offense. Opponents put a great deal of effort into game-planning and trying to slow down Peyton Manning and Co on the field. When those efforts go for naught, it can leave a team somewhat demoralized and less motivated for their next opponent, as this PRO INFO SPORTS NFL POWER SYSTEM reveals:

PS14X-3 (30.6) - Play AGAINST a team (not an underdog of 7+ points) off an underdog SU & ATS loss against Indianapolis in its last game vs. an AFC opponent.

ATS: 9-0 (12.6) SU: 8-1 (11.6)

YEAR/WK/DAY/TM/OPP/ST/LN/SCR/SU/MRG/ATS/MRG
2003 / 2 / SUN / CLE / BAL / A / +2 / 13-33 / L / -20 / L / -18
2003 / 4 / SUN / JAC / HOU / A / -3 / 20-24 / L / -4 / L / -7
2003 / 12 / SUN / NYJ / JAC / H / -4 / 13-10 / W / 3 / L / -1
2004 / 3 / SUN / TEN / JAC / H / -6 / 12-15 / L / -3 / L / -9
2004 / 5 / SUN / JAC / SD / A / -2' / 21-34 / L / -13 / L / -15'
2004 / 6 / SUN / OAK / DEN / H / +2 / 3-31 / L / -28 / L / -26
2004 / 14 / MON / TEN / KC / H / +1 / 38-49 / L / -11 / L / -10
2004 / 16 / SUN / BAL / PIT / A / +5 / 7-20 / L / -13 / L / -8
2005 / 2 / SUN / BAL / TEN / A / -3' / 10-25 / L / -15 / L / -18'

The Tennessee Titans were 7-point home underdogs against the Colts last week; however, even with getting a TD worth of points they didn?t come close to covering the spread. This week they are a 3-point underdog at Houston. These parameters qualify Tennessee as the Play AGAINST team. For this PRO INFO SPORTS NFL POWER SYSTEM, the Play-ON team is HOUSTON.

Note that the Titans were in this very situation last year following each of their division losses to Indianapolis. After dropping a Week 2 game at home to the Colts, Tennessee was a 6-point home favorite against Jacksonville, but lost outright 15-12. After getting blown out at Indianapolis in Week 13, they hosted Kansas City on Monday Night Football. This time they were a 1-point home dog, but lost 49-38, failing to cover by 10 points.

Also note that Houston has been the beneficiary of this situation before. After a Week 3 loss to the Colts in 2003, the Jaguars were 3-point favorites at Houston, but lost outright 24-20.

Additionally, this POWER SYSTEM is already 1-0 on the 2005 season, with the 3?-point favorite Ravens losing 25-10 at Tennessee in Week 2 following their Week 1 Sunday Night home SU & ATS loss against Indianapolis.
