Writeups:

1. WAKE FOREST (+6) over Florida State (1 unit)

Last year in Tallahassee, Wake shut out the Seminoles, 30-0. The year before, in Winston-Salem, FSU won a squeaker, 20-17.

Wake Forest features a solid running game with a 139 ypg average, 5th in the ACC. The Demon Deacons have rushed for 9 TDs this season. Wake is averaging 27.9 ppg on the year.

The Demon Deacons run a lot of misdirection plays making it difficult for defenses, especially in FSU's case with limited days to prepare for it.

I'll take the live dog at home getting 6 against the #21 Seminoles.

2. DUKE (+13) over Virginia Tech (1 unit)

Last Saturday, Virginia Tech's offense barely accumulated 200 yards against Clemson.

Inexperience at quarterback and the offensive line has made the Hokie offense predictable.

VT may have to depend on the defense and not the offense to get it done at Duke.

Against this offense, I'll take the 13 at home for a Blue Devil team that didn't quit last week against Wake Forest.

3. South Carolina (-6-1/2) over NORTH CAROLINA (3 units)

The #7 Gamecocks' only loss this season came at the hands of LSU.

South Carolina has outscored its opponents 158-73 in its 5 wins.

The Gamecocks have already upset Georgia on the road and beat Mississippi State by 17.

I say USC covers this number, which is just under a TD.

I'm really liking the Wednesday night ESPN game.

4. Navy (+4-1/2) (-115) over PITTSBURGH (3 units)

5. Navy ML (+170) over PITTSBURGH (2 units)

Pitt has been outscored 95-41 during its current 3-game losing streak. Their wins this season are Eastern Michigan and Grambling.

The Panthers rank 105th in the nation in offensive yards (315 ypg) and 100th in scoring (20.4 ppg) this season.

In his 2 starts, true freshman Pat Bostick has 2 TD's and 5 INTs.

In its last game, Navy beat rival Air Force 31-21 and blanked the Falcons in the fourth quarter.

The Middies rank 25th in the country with 446.8 ypg and are scoring 32.4 ppg.

Pitt is really struggling on offense and I think defensively, they will get frustrated with the constant pressure the Navy running game applies.

6. MISSISSIPPI (+6) over Alabama (1 unit)

Ole Mis won its first game since the opening week last Saturday with a convincing win over Louisiana Tech, while Alabama comes into this one with a near loss to Houston. The Rebels' combination of Benjarvus Green-Ellis and Seth Adams will give them a shot to win. The Ole Miss offense will need to score a lot of points if the Rebels are to win outright, but I think they can score enough to cover the 6 at home.

So far this week: 4-2 (+4.00 units).

Throwing one more down for Sunday night.

7. BOISE STATE (-26) over Nevada (1 unit)

The Broncos are a perfect 6-0 against Nevada since joining the WAC in 2001 - and the numbers get worse.

BSU has outscored the Wolf Pack, 294-59 in that span, held them to 7 or fewer 4 times, and won every game by at least 31 points.

Last week, the Broncos scored 58 points and put up 604 yards of offense. BSU ranks third in the nation in total defense, allowing just 231 ypg.

The Pack own the worst rush defense in the nation, allowing 268 ypg.

Take the Broncos Bigtime on the SmurfTurf.
