Vols vs NC State
Current Line - Vols -3 O/U 52
It is very interesting for me to say and/or believe this, but this is the most important game in "The Count's"(Derek Dooley) career thus far. For outsiders, it may be crazy, but for fans here, this is a must win game.
The Vols return 9 starters on offense, but the big thing is the fact that the OL has a great deal of experience after two tough years. Steele has their OL projected 3rd in the SEC, but I would put them 2nd behind Bama. The Vols will be able to run this year, which will take pressure off QB, Tyler Bray.
Don't read too much into Da'Rick Rogers being kicked off the team. Yes, he was one of the best receivers in the SEC, but two things - 1 - he benefited greatly from Justin Hunter being out, and 2 - he was a cancer to the team. As much of a prick as he was, he even said that he might end up being the #3 receiver on the team behind Hunter and JUCO transfer Cordarrelle Patterson. There is also experience behind these two with SR. TE Mychal Rivera, and SR. WR Zach Rogers. Add a bunch of talented freshmen in the mix, and it won't take long for Vol fans to say "Da'Who?"
NC State has one of the best secondaries in the ACC, but they only return 2 of their front 7 on defense. This will allow the Vols to run and get some quick routes early to bring the secondary up.
On the flip side - the Pack have a strong OL and with the Vols going from a 4-3, to a 3-4, SR. QB Mike Glennon should be able to have some success, esp. early in the game. I really expect Tom OB to be ready due to his success with bowl games and time to prepare.
It is hard for me to pick the winner in this game. I think NC State has a tremendous coaching advantage, but I think the Vols have more playmakers and better special teams. This may be what it comes down to in the end.
