Devils coach Brent Sutter said he won't make the decision until this morning, but it appears likely that backup goaltender Kevin Weekes will make his fourth start of the season tonight in Washington. Martin Brodeur started his 12th game in a row Sunday. Brodeur and Weekes both said they did not know which goaltender would start tonight.
Weekes has not played since posting a 3-2 win Nov. 12 in Pittsburgh.
Rupp returns
Left wing Mike Rupp was back in the Devils' lineup after sitting out the previous 11 games as a healthy scratch as Sutter dressed 12 forwards for the first time in five games. That pushed defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski out as a healthy scratch for the first time this season.
Rupp hadn't played since the Devils' last game against the Rangers on Dec. 14 at Prudential Center.
"I just wanted to get the first shift out of the way," said Rupp, who played only 4:47. "It was probably one of the longer times I've been out, but it felt good to get back out there."
Briefs
Devils LW Jay Pandolfo missed his fifth game in a row with a pubic bone injury. ... Devils D Johnny Oduya was a healthy scratch for the third game in a row. ... Rangers D Marek Malik was a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game.
