I know it's not exactly Kentucky, but it is $600,000 and has attracted some decent talent. It looks like it may a race worth taking a shot at the exotics as well. It's the 8th race on the card and will be live on ESPN. I can see it breaking down like this:
#1 Dynever, We just keep hearing about this horse since the Lone Star Derby and then he didn't run in either the Kentuckey Derby or the Preakness, shows up in the Belmont and was never involved, may fit nicely into a race like this where mostly second tier horses are running, very hard to tell, recent workouts are not impressive though.
#2 Outta Here has been considered a bit of a dissapointment, anyone remember him running 12 wide in the kentuckey Derby? Since then he ran in the Affirmened handicap where he made up zero ground late, but more interestingly in the last race (a G2) he came charging late to just miss and Kent Desormeaux is not traveling all the way fromt he left coast for no reason.
#3 Cat Singer, Has won 4 of 7 lifetime and makes Stakes debut, speed figures are just not competitive, TOSS.
Dana Whitney is riding a horse for Bob Baffert #4 During, in typical Whitney fashion he will probably take this horse to the front and burn him out and considering he just ran 6 days ago I think 9 furlongs is a bit much to ask. If it seems I am picking on Whitney here, your right, guy has cost me more money than college.
#5 Soto, admitidly I do not know enough about this horse, it's hard not to like a horse that is 4 for 4 lifetime. Walked in as the overwhelming favorite i nhis last effort at Philly park in what many think was a prep race for todays race. Michael Dickinson is obviously no fool and I think he wants the win today.
#6 Mobil, Invader from the north has 3 wins and place in 4 tries this year, again may be a touch out of class here nad regular rider (Kabel) does not make the trip, does attract the services of Chavez though, interesting connections here, wildcard.
#7 Lone Star Sky, Another Kentucky Derby also ran who is looking for a spot to fit in. I personally thought he was out-classed in his last race, the NortherDancer, but ran a very game second to Champali who ran a triple digit speed figure if memory serves. I know his form is not overly impressive, but it is improving and I may just take a shot with this guy, I love this horse, granted he has burnt alot of money for me, but I may give him another try today.
#8 Miss Karry The News, HHMMM, more like Miss Couldn't Carry My Jock Strap, no chance, please just don't get in the way f one of my horses.
#9 Coax Kid, Has the running style to fit here, but maybe not the speed. Attracts the service of Jason Lumpkins (?), maybe O'niel is not taking his best shot with this one today.
I really like the #10 Colita in this spot, I am just a bit worried about his form cycle of improving figure, improving figure, improving figure, BIG BOUNCE. He went to the lead last time out, dueled for about 3 furlongs and then put everybody away easily running a monster figure of 107, a reapeat of that effort and he walks in the last fraction to an easy win, but how many horses can run like that back to back, ow he has had 80 days off and ran a decent workout 6 days ago, it just worries me, I mean reguardless of the days off, how many times do you see a horses past performances with 2 or 3 triple digit speed figures in a row?
#11 Dr. E. Claire, UMM, if you bet on my top pick and this horse gets to the wire first I will refund your money, no problem. Trainer Nancy Thorton, a regular at Mountineer just wants to be a part of this race so bad she is willing to saddle this donkey up, save your money.
#12 Supah Blitz, Yet another Kentucky Derby also ran looking for a home. Comes off 2 straight impressive wins against lower class horses, one on turf, the other on an off track. He'll make a charge late, thats for sure, but Mountaineer is not a track that you can come from too far back and he may find himself in just that spot as the leaders hit the turn.
This really looks like a race for #5 Soto and #1 Dynever and it may just play out that way, but you all know I like the price plays and I like improving horses.
I know, enough is enough, give us the winner, ask and ye shall recieve:
Give me the #10 Colita with Jose Santos aboard at 10-1ML for all the money. An exacta and trifecta box of 1-5-10 may return a nice profit as well.
Good luck and post your thoughts!
