I used to play with Micro machines when I was a kid (really small cars).

Later on after college - I thought it would be cool to collect them.

5 min. later I jump on Ebay and started looking and there was a listing for 1,200 micro machines including ones that were developed and produced over seas.

The current bid was $390 and then I thought - hmmm..... if I had every micro machine - what would I do with them - why would it matter.

Anyway - inside a 10 min. span I had decided to collect Micro Machines and then decided it would be stupid and a waste of time.

My father passed away in February and while going through his safe we found a ton of old coins. He had collected wheat pennies, buffalo nickels, mercury dimes, old quarters, half dollars and old silver dollars, some from the late 1800s. We are in the process right now of putting all the info in a database. So I guess I'm a coin collector now.

Also found my old baseball card collection while going through the closets. Haven't had time to look at it though. Oh man the gum I chewed.

Sorry of your father passing but what a find. BUt not the money value of it, the fact that he actually collected coins (and it seems as if you didnt know about it) and they may become value I should say are valuable because they once were his, to pass them down for genreations to come would be something Id be most interested in, and make sure the keeper of said coiins understands memories and family heirs are priceless. Nice :SIB

My personal opinion is that I always thought collecting things were a little silly.

But I do a bunch of silly shit, too, so to each their own.

Jer-z, thank you for the kind words. He'd given us some silver dollars over the years for our kids but I never knew the extent of his collection. It is definitely something I'm holding onto and passing down.

Sports Illustrated issues, have every issue since '90. Was moving them around to make room in the garage the other day and saw one with Jason Kidd on the cover wearing his Cal Bears uniform. Cool to see the old ones once in a while.
