It is going to be very busy, well at least it was before the economy took a big shit. Was down there about 7 years ago during opening weekend of MM..
For that time of year, you will want a Sportsbook that has plenty of windows.. I suggest a Big sportsbook.
Used to love the Stardust, when I was in my early 20s a bunch of guys would stay at the Westward Ho and I would hit the Stardust everyday.. Remember the steak and lobster sign 11.99 or was it 13.99
As a retirement gift my company( last year )gave me 5 days in March for the the start of the NCAA tournament. Stayed at the Hilton I think it's the best book in Vegas. Had the best time of the many trips to Vegas. Hit the pool one day but too chilly the rest of the time. Thinking on going in 2013 with my son's. You will have a great time.
Been there every year during the first round of the tourney for the past 12 years and it's always fun. It's definitely busy. Some sports books are better than others. Caesars, Palazo, Excalibur, Mandaly, Ballys all have good sports books in my opinion. If you play a lot and have a card, they'll reserve a table for you in the book. If not, you just have to find the right place. Mirage buffet is excellent and reasonably priced.
LV Hotel, (Hilton),......but get there WAY early !!
They now have a section called 'Ultimate Fan Zone', or something close. It is NO SMOKING, has huge comfy lazy boy type chairs, and a wall full of big screens !!
The first round is really a zoo with alot of drunk college students...nothing wrong with that as I was once among them.
I usually go on the second weekend when the games are better, are played over a shorter period of time and, even though still crowded, you can get a decent seat and avoid the really long lines.
Just depends on your taste but, either way it's great to be in a big betting crowd when a game is on the line.
Was out there over the first weekend of March Madness about 6 years ago. I think I remember them saying it is the second busiest weekend in Vegas other than New Year's. The sportsbooks are standing room only and shoulder to shoulder. It was a blast though, last second shots have half the room going nuts with the other half with their hands over eyes.
I went last yr for the 1st time during week 1...32 games on thur..another 32 on fri...then half of those on sat and sunday...it was unreal...it was my 1st and as long as I'm healthy I'll always go the opening weekend.....Hilton was great...most of the casinos sportbooks were good...I stay with a retired nurse from my school....she is a local so I go to Green Valley,Southpoint,etc...two of the days was at Hilton and a few others downtown...their are so many games up on the screens...its heaven....esp when you winning...will be arriving late wed and leaving monday nite...if anyone is out there next week and wants to hook up for a game or drink post here and we'll exchange e-mails...
Box hope you have great weather & much luck. My 1st time was last year for the start of the games, really had the best time ever in Vegas. Planning on next year with my sons.
