As sad as this is, there is no such a thing as a bad dog, just bad owners. I've been around plenty of Rottweilers and pit bulls. And properly trained they're as fine of dog as any. I can't blame the breed on this tragedy....

I guess only bad owners have Pits & Rotts because you never hear a Lab/Collie/Shepard killing kids........

Also I think this says it all.......

"The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that 4.7 million Americans are bitten by dogs each year, resulting in 16 deaths on average"

16 out of 4.7 million......very low number indeed.

More people die from a toaster then a dog.

Sportsaholic.......all big dogs can kill. In fact almost any dog could kill a 7 month old baby.

Again.......16 out of 4.7 million

Any dog can kill if they are abused, the breed of the dog has nothing to do with it. These assholes got a Rottweiler because of it's ability to protect and intimidate unwanted people or whatever. And I'm willing to bet that they were aggressive with it, well it should be no shock what happens....

Again you can't blame the dog on this.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
There is a reason many communities have banned certain dog breeds from getting into the hands of the average dog owner, which would include "these assholes".

Claiming the dog breed has nothing to do with it is like giving the keys to a Mustang Boss 302 with 3 cases of beer to buncha random average teenagers who'd be dying to have it. After the tragedy, don't blame the car or the provider or the beer. Properly trained teenagers, there'd be no problems...

I love dogs, but I don't think I've ever been around a Pitt bull that wasn't aggressive.

Agreed.. My best friend had four of them. Youve never seen dogs so spoiled in your entire life. No mistreatment here. And yes most of the time the dogs were sweet.

One night I was over at their house late and i used a bathroom towards the back of the house. When I came out three of them were waiting for me.. Growling and showing teeth. They wouldnt let me leave the bathroom. If I moved they would bark and jump in front of my path. My buddy finally came and got them away from me.

He only has one left. They kept attacking each other. One by one they killed each other off. Only the Alpha male remains. Even he is in bad shape cause of all the fights. He says he will never own more than one Pitt. Tell me this happens with other breeds? It doesnt.

I go to the dog park with my dog and it is soooooo obvious that all the pit bull/rotteilers are owned by black dudes.

Not one white/hispanic/chinese dude out there with a pit bull or rotteiler......

I don't know if it's the town I live in or if it's everywhere.

Just an observation................

Wow, this early in the thread and we've gotten into breedism, racism and classism, all over a dog attacking a baby! It doesn't matter whether this was a Rottweiler or a St. Bernard. Plain and simple, you don't leave a 7 month old baby in the presence of any dog unattended. DUH!

no one died.... but a puncture wound on arm or leg is a BIG deal to a child...or young person.

The fact is a higher percentage of these breeds will snap compared with other breeds. Feel free to take chances with your kids but I wouldn't put the life of my kids at risk hoping I got a good pit bull.
