Kenny Williams is making such a difference. The Sox are going to be pretty good in the long-term. His model right now is to be fiscally responsible in the off season and go rent an arm or two and a left-handed bat once other teams start to unload and take your chances in the postseason. With the Yankees and the Red Sox getting all of the talent, it has really left the rest of the league on a pretty even kiel and makes things pretty exciting (unless you?re the Orioles, Devil Rays or the Blue Jays). Things will really take shape for them if they can get to the All-Star break within 3 games of the Twinks. What worries me is their propensity to all slump at the same time.
I?m really thinking about getting some close captioning for my TV so that I can follow along during Ozzie?s press conferences (even his TV spots).
I agree. KW has made some mistakes, like all GM's (Ritchie, Konerko and Koch's contract) but he really excels at making the little moves (Marte, Loiaza, Olivo, Uribe). I love KW and you can tell he has a passion for the game.
On a related note, Garland is working much quicker (taking a page out of Buehrle's book) and has changed much for the better. It looks like he will never be an "ace" but he can be a very solid #3 starter for his career that will throw a couple games each year that will really "wow" you. He will also just keep you in games. Not bad for Matt Karchner.
As for the close captioning, since it's live, the person typing has to know what he is saying, and I don't think that is the case...
