Word here is the Sox may be involved in moving Konerko. Gload could play 1st and maybe they think he will develop even more. I like Konerko but I think he has peaked and wouldn't mind myself getting primo value for him now. That would most likely piss off a lot of the locals, esp since Paul is a native, and a damn good hr hitter at the Cell.

i would still give him a chance. he is only 28. Gload hasn't impressed me that much.

Too many players like Konerko on the team the past few years. His value is at its highest right now. KW wants to get out of the longball or nothing/no defense strategy that has been the same old song and dance for the past 4 years. Gload played awfully well the last 2 months and plays a very good defensive first base. Not to mention Konerko is the slowest player in the majors bar none.

From my local ESPN radio outlet...

White Sox looking at Farnsworth.

I never liked him as a Cub. Big-ass jock wackjob that never improved or wanted to.

Now that the Sox are looking at him....

This guys a stud that may do well in the American League with Ozzie leaning on him in a real ballpark. The change of view from the northside beer garden led by the steriod freak, to a team with all it's players available and a strong starting pitching staff with a vibrant mgr may just be what he needs. :)

Thomas won't be able to play full time when opening day comes. He will still be recovering/rehabbing from his surgery.

Not a bad signing...

Dye agrees with White Sox

December 9, 2004
CHICAGO (AP) -- Outfielder Jermaine Dye and the White Sox agreed Thursday on a $10.15 million, two-year contract, giving Chicago a replacement for Magglio Ordonez in right field.

Dye hit .265 with 23 home runs and 80 RBIs in 137 games with Oakland last season. He has hit 20 or more home runs five times and has three 100-RBI seasons.

The 30-year-old Dye has a career .272 average with 161 home runs and 611 RBIs in 1,039 games over nine major league seasons with Atlanta, Kansas City and Oakland.

Dye will make $4 million next year and $5 million in 2006. Chicago has a $6 million for 2007 with a $1.15 million buyout.

Konerko is part of talks about a three way deal with NY and Arizona in which the Yanks end up with Randy and Konerko goes to Zona.

As the Cubs current right fielder, can you hook a brother up with some tickets for the cross-town series when it's played in Wrigley :)

Like Williams shaking things up a bit. It has been getting stagnent over the past couple years. I'm the 1st to say "injuries!" :) , but having the likes of Valentine, the Alomar brothers and the occasional overpaid arm, has gotten old hat. Lee did step it up in the void with all the injuries this year, as much as I hate to say this, I never really liked his work ethic. Seen him blow off plays in the outfield, suck on the bases, and not show much improvement in either department over time. His value has peaked IMO and hopefully they can get some good talent in return. He also looks like he has very good potential in the mucho fato department. We could see him blimp out and become a typical American Leaguer with a bat.

Looks like Paul is staying, maybe for good.

Nice to see Williams not standing pat with the team. You have to give talent to get. Moves have to be made.

A move like this shows how Williams feels confident in his position with the Sox IMO.

Ozzie is getting what he had said he wanted for the future, a National League style team. Small ball. We will see if it works out.

looks like a good move, but i wish they would of gotten rid of Konerko instead of Lee. Sox still need a starting pitcher though, but moving lee saved them 6 million

I don't think Williams is done. I'd be very surprised if he was. Especially with Marriotti on the airwaves and in the paper ripping the Sox non stop.

It's too obvious that they are putting the money in their pocket (or Reinsdorf's). They drew near 2 mill, are in the process of upgrading the park thanks to that big chunk from the Cell people, went and made some other big acquisitions over the last year.

Williams (+Reinsdorf) would love nothing better than making a big move to shove it down their detractors throat. Williams keeps everything pretty much close to the vest. Nobody will see it coming.
