With two outs and a runner on 1st and 3rd (and Beltran on 1st)

Why was Catalanatto playing way way off the line in left field? ESPN quickly showed a brief second of the outfield alignment and I thought to myself, why is Catalanatto so far off the left field line? Because a double into the corner could score the runner from first.

Sweeney is at the plate. Right handed batter who pulls the ball especially vs Adams who is not a real hard thrower.

Why did they leave so much of the line open?

How can you get beat on a base hit down the left field line?

That is bad fundamental baseball. If you want to protect the gaps, then shift your center fielder toward left and your right toward center. Your first baseman should be guarding the right field line anyway for an opposite field liner.

Blue jays got beat an a terrible alignment. No way that kind of play should score the runner from first.
