Target shooters?
No. An off the shelf cheapo, bolt action Savage is far more accurate.
Hunters?
No. The AR15 is less accurate than virtually any bolt action rifle, and doesn't hit hard enough for reliable kills on anything larger than small deer. A bolt action 270 will take deer easily, and a BA .308 will take most anything larger.
As a "home-protection" weapon?
No. A revolver in .38 is much easier to use in close quarters, and has plenty of knock down power. If you're worried about a drug-crazed rapist breaking in while wearing body armor, then get a .44 mag revolver. AR15 rounds will just bounce off him.
So what's an AR15 good for?
Two things -
1. Putting lots of rounds downrange quickly. That's why it's a favorite of the military and terrorists. How many people would the Orlando terrorist have killed if he'd had to reload his .38 every six rounds?
2. Impressing your friends who have small dicks like you.
