my preferences are

1. Larry Brown (would make it a positive thing that we lost Roy)
2. Bill Self
3. Mark Pugh
4. Mike Montgomery
5. Barry Switzer lol

I think it will be Bill Self, or Steve Lavin.

I don't know what Kansas fans would think, but I think Billy Donovan might be a good choice.

Maybe they should choose a well known alumni who is presently coaching college ball.It seems to me that is how these colleges get any loyalty.

and what about Roy's loyalty to Matt Doherty?

guy was mutinied by his players.....UNC, Dean, and Roy showed real loyalty there!!!!

Seems Carolina Blue should be yellow!!!

I think Bill Self will be the lead canidate. Think he would be a nice fit there.

Mike Montgomery would be great as well, but I can't see him leaving Stanford.

How about Tom Crean or Mark Few? I think both would be great for the Big 12. But I am not sure if Mr Crean has extended at Marquette?

Tim Floyd??? (No you can't bring Marcus Fizer back with you )

I think KU needs a good AD as well. Think they could steal Bill Byrne from A&M???? (Tongue firmly planted in cheek) ho ho ho
tee heee heee. Him, Dave Gillespie and Fuhk Solich ruined the Nebraska football program. Let's see how bad he can help Kansas Basketball get.

Freeze no sense talking about something that you have no idea about. You can't believe everything that you hear in the press. Matt Doherty was fired for nothing except his own actions, things that happened behind closed doors that would have gotten just about any coach fired. UNC, Dean and Roy had nothing to do with his actions but the man himself.

I can try understand your letdown but you aren't a true Kansas fan if you can't respect the 15 years that man gave to your program.

Sports radio here in Chicago is reporting that its Self's job, if he wants it. Given their freshmen class this year and the fact Kansas was senior oriented, I see this as a lateral move at best. In fact, they're already speculating on who will get the Illinois job, with Crean being the leading candidate.

What's it going to do to the ACC?

They now have three MONSTER coaches in "K", Williams and Williams.

With the exposure (and therefore top recruits) these programs are going to get, the practice of playing against the best coached teams in the nation, this could turn this conference into a powerhouse like we've never seen before. Between January and March, you're going to have at least one match-up between these guys almost every single week.

If Self goes, I don't think it makes sense. He's got a great freshmen class this season, and the 2nd best rated high school player coming in next season. Kansas was senior-oriented and you can only go down after getting to the championship game. I think Williams turned down Carolina three years ago because he felt he had a great shot at a title with the Heinrich/Collison recruiting class.

No way Brown takes this job, if he did, he would have to withdraw as head coach of the 2004 Olympic team. Coaching the Olympic team is something Brown has wanted for about 20 years now. Don't think he passes up the gold medal for Kansas, a place he's already been and won a title.

I agree that Self will be at the top of KU's list, but I wonder if KU is at the top of Self's list at the present time. Self is paid well at Illinois, has a lot of talent coming in, and probably does not want to follow in the footsteps of Roy Williams. Fuhk, who would? They will have to go for somebody who isn't as well off as Self is up there. The only thing that gives the "Bill Self to KU" idea any credence is that he once made it known that Kansas was his dream job. We'll have to see about that.

I think what Valuist is saying, and I agree, is that based on players currently at both schools and what both schools have coming in, Illinois is, at worst, going to be as good as Kansas for the next couple of years. Hence, the lateral move comment. KU clearly is a higher level program overall.

not only that Waldo but they don't even have an AD now. I'm not sure the Kansas job is extremely attractive at the moment.

No AD + following Williams = danger
