Billy Packer is very pro ACC and anti-Big 10 - I realize that....but

He made a comment that Wisky and Ohio State would be playing for a #1 seed tomorrow. I'm not so sure they shouldn't both be #1 seeds....

It seems that everyone thinks Ohio State is a lock, along with UCLA and Kansas....

Not so fast, my friend. If the RPI means anything at all, they should use it. Let's look at the "big name" teams and see how they stack up:

Ohio State 29-3, #1 in the RPI
UCLA 25-5, #2 RPI
North Carolina 26-6, #3
Pittsburgh, 27-6, #4
Wisconsin, 29-4, #5

Florida, 28-5, #8
Kansas 29-4, #11

Why the heck is everyone thinking Kansas gets a #1? Very week schedule, losing to Oral Roberts and a double digit RPI?

I can certainly see Ohio State and North Carolina as locks.

UCLA would be eliminated (in my mind) for losing their last 2 games in the season to bottom feeders of the PAC-10.

Kansas would be eliminated from consideration due to their poor schedule and RPI.

That leaves Wisconsin, Florida and Pitt for the last 2 spots. Obviously RPI is a piece of the puzzle, as is who did each of these teams play and importantly, WHO did they lose to.

Somebody please help me understand all the love that UCLA and Kansas is getting. I can at least understand UCLA due to their strong RPI. But Kansas? PLEASE!! Sure they have the same record as the big boys, but their RPI is terrible!

I do like hearing your take on issues like this, as usually you have some good insight.

I don't think the response this time falls into that category.

Somehow there has to be a method to take into account who a team plays. The NCAA uses RPI.

Is their a better rating system? It certainly wouldn't be the coaches poll or AP poll.

I still don't see any rationale how Kansas is viewed that they are a #1 seed, given the low RPI. Other than a win against Florida, who have they beaten? And the Oral Roberts loss certainly cancels the Florida win, in my opinion.

So. Cal
winner get's a 1 seed
loser get's a 2 seed

unless

wisc beats osu
kansas loses
unc loses
fla loses

then, osu will also get a 1 seed.

in the end, does it really matter?

unc-ucla-fla-kansas-osu-wisc-gtwn/pitt winner are all secure in the 1-2 seed range......there should only be 1 spot left at the 2 seed level....pitt/gtwn loser vs memphis (and that 2 seed should get the #1 overall seed)

imo,unc wins on sun, they should and will get a 1 seed.winning the tourny and reg season acc titlles, you will be a 1 seed.

florida..UNC (if win)....if wisky wins they should both get a 1 seed..unc,florida,ohio st.wisky.....if wisky losses they SHOULD NOT be a one side(no way)...if wisky and unc lose tommorow ,i have no idea and nothing will look right, then gtown/pitt winner, ucla, kansas all have a shot

You all keep forgetting how hard it is to change the bracket with all the various rules. It isnt like they can just say "florida lost swap em with Wiscy." The NCAA isnt and cant wait to see if Kansas and Wiscy win. So they will slot OSU/Wiscy as a 1 and a 2 depending who wins. Kansas will get a 1 even if they lose.

this year it may not make a difference in the 1/2 seeds. they may just place them 1&2 depending on location and other teams in the draw (trying to avoid conference matchups until the elite 8)

all the teams listed are worthy of a 1.

if unc wins they should be #1
osu/wisky winner should be #1
if ku wins they should be #1
if fla wins they should be #1

but a case could be made for ucla and wisky/osu loser too.

That is EXACTLY right

That is EXACTLY right

I don't think they want to give the B10 2 #1's unless they have to.JMO

The last thing the committee wants to do is to have two #1's from the same conference.

They like to have 4 teams from different conferences. I'm sure it has happened before, but I can't remember when.

I just

I just

hope the committee puts enough weight on who you lost to and where (bad losses) and schedule strength (RPI).

If they do that, then we will see Wisky with a #1. And certainly Kansas will be a #2 in that situation.

My gut is that they will "award" the Big 12 champ a #1 seed, no matter how poor their strength of schedule is.

But with so much uncertainty in the #1 seeds and the bubble teams - well, the selection show will be very interesting tomorrow!
