Military Plan for Iran Ready?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 13, 2007 - FreeMarketNews.com

Senior U.S. military officers now say they support President George Bush's stance to do everything necessary to stop Iran from going nuclear, according to The Jerusalem Post.
Prediction: the president will launch some kind of strike, possibly against Iran?s nuclear facilities, before he leaves office.

The reality of a strike against Iran may have been buttressed by the release of General Peter Pace, chairman of the Pentagon's joint chiefs of staff. The London Times reported earlier this year that "some of America?s most senior military commanders are prepared to resign if the White House orders a military strike against Iran."

It placed General Pace in this category as follows: "General Peter Pace said recently there was 'zero chance' of a war with Iran. He played down claims by US intelligence that the Iranian government was responsible for supplying insurgents in Iraq, forcing Bush on the defensive."

With Pace out of the picture, the way may be cleared for the strikes the Bush administration apparently wants. With the war in Iraq going badly, with the immigration bill a failure and his personal popularity plummeting, the only realistic option left to a president who wishes to remain powerful is the military option.

A strike against Iran would have a tremendously polarizing effect, putting the United States at war with a specific enemy that has been demonized for decades. See today's High Alert repost "Iran Scam: Hammer & Anvil."

If Iran joined the battle, as its internal politics would probably demand, then the US might consider a nuclear response as well. Such a response might end the war and result in a surge of popularity for Bush, but one that would come at the cost of US prestige throughout the world. The ramifications are drastic and, even, predictable - greater "security" measures implemented at home and even more violence abroad.

The planning continues. A high ranking U.S. military officer told the Post that the Navy and Air Force would play the primary roles in any military action against Iran. One idea floating around is a naval blockade designed to cut off Iran's oil exports.

The Israeli Air Force conducted drills with visiting U.S. pilots Sunday.

Wow there's a plan. Pray it's better then Iraq plan was/is. I wonder if these folks know we have a plan for N Korea, China if they attack Taiwan. Anyone think we trust Russia enough not to have a plan ready. Heck we have so many plans. And guess what know one but a small few know what they are. No news agencies have a clue. No computer sites have a clue. They can only guess.

Avoiding politics in this one for now, I have always thought the turnover/changes in the high command positions has been very high. I don't remember (honestly) if that was the case in previous conflicts. Anyone remember?
