I know why teams fire managers but I think it is nonsense to fire them, outside of something happening off the field...This year the Marlins, Brewers, and Padres fired their managers and these teams still suck...Ryne Sandberg resigned and Phils still are dreadful.... The problem with these 4 teams is not a manager but the front offices..Ruben Amaro of the Phils is a clown with all the terrible contracts he has given(Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee, Papelbon, etc.)....The new GM at SD acquired BJ Upton and Matt Kemp:scared:scared, traded most of his prospects to ATL for a 1 yr rental of Justin Upton, the team plays no defense and strikes out a ton...The Brewers and Marlins see above...
Agreed 100% on the front offices. The Indians ran Hart out of town and he landed as an advisor/consultant to the Rangers cuz of Nolan Ryan mainly, now he's ass kissing Schuerholz who's hoping his son is ready to replace him in the hierarchy.
Yost is not a good manager, but as the ol' saying goes folks, "You win with Talent!" Earl Weaver, Billy Martin, Tommy LaSorda, Mike Sciosia, Bruce Bochy, Jim Leyland, all won because they were/are fearless and took chances, these knuckeheads (Gonzalez, Ausmus, Redmond since fired, Sandberg was, not ready for the Phils job but he took it and he knew the system (farm that is) sucked, Bud Black is not a teacher he was a pitching guru for the Royals hay days and he did ok with the Padres' pitchers)
Amaro traded away a lot of farm system guys, none however that are making an impact, thus far Singleton is a big ass bust, but he's still young, for the Astros, most of the other guys traded away haven't gotten out of AA yet, Knapp (arm woes), other first rounders that were affordable flunked as well, all except the lefty in the minors, Biddle (local guy selection to save money).
The Rays were obviously knowing that Upton Jr was on the downslide and Justin burnt bridges with D-back team mates and just wants the dough, he's not passionate about baseball like he used to be.
The Braves had a shot at a wild card his year, but with Freeman out and their pitching staff not getting any run support and Miller is downsliding quickly as is Teheran, the Braves don't have much and probably will be sellers but they picked up quite a few good prospects, but some are out, Fried (TJ surgery), the others will get their.
Preller is a know it all prick. I hate his ass! I've known him for a long time. Same goes for Elias (Scouting Director) of the Ass-tros and the guy the Cards just had to fire cuz he hacked the Astros computer system (federal offense). He'll chase away all the good baseball people in the Padres holdover office/scouting dept and build his own niche, but he sure is wearing some egg on his face now, but anything can happen in the NL Worst. The D-backs are hovering around 500 so anything is possible in that division, problem is, LA Dodgers have the depth and stockpiled farm system and will be big time buyers soon. Hamels in their rotation and another bat in the lineup will only help them.
But I'm rambling now so I'll shut up. Marlins did a smart thing getting rid of Freddy and the Braves would be smart to do the same and let Bo Porter or T Pendleton run the club and put some fire under those guys' asses. Chris Johnson and his big loopy swing sucks, he was better when he was with Houston where his swing was not as long and he didn't K as much as he's doing now. Funny how a lil money and strange will turn your game into shit.
Thanks guys for the input!
