Why is election day not a national holiday?

Let me say, that I don't understand why voters should not have to show an ID to be able to vote - I've never understood this "logic" against it. People died in an out of this country to protect our rights to vote - I don't think it's AT ALL out of line to require people to be properly identified and be U.S. citizens to vote in our elections. This disenfranchisement thing just doesn't make any sense to me. Get an ID card, and keep it current. You need this to do much of anything in this country. You know when you need to vote - if that's your thing, so get an ID card. You should need it to cash a check, and for most things of importance in this country. You can do it any time you want - so make a plan. Or "inconvenience" yourself if you have to make tough plans to get this accomplished. Certainly, most others do this kind of thing all the time.

Now, to say the republicans aren't taking extreme measures to disenfranchise some voters is not true, either. Just not most of us... get an ID card if you want to vote.

Chad u are not 85 or disabled. I don't need ID to cash a check. Is this gonna cost money now to buy this thing? Are they gonna have it 20 miles away? Why after all these years we need to do this. I go in, sign my name and vote. Everyone knows me when i come in an vote. Nobody is gonna come in and vote with my name. They would never get away with it. there are Republicans and Democrats sitting in this room so i highly doubt someone is gonna be able to start voting 20 different people in without the other party flipping out. If this was a legitimate concern with Republicans i would be on board but this is all about suppressing a vote and nothing more. If they were so concerned about this then let us vote all week instead of on a Tuesday when i have to work most of the day. If u bring up that change every Republican will run out of the room. Republicans will probably say why change it now while out of the other side of their mouth they are pushing this agenda.
