Why is Plaxico Burress facing real time?

Donte Stallworth killed a guy while driving under the influnence and got 30 days and only served 24. Michael Vick killed dogs and banked rolled kennels for fighting purposes and got 24 months.

Plax shot himself and is facing at least 36 months. I know that this happened in the Liberal state of New York but come on. I also know he did not have a concealed weapon permit or registration on the firearm.

Why is this such a huge issue?

From what I understand Stallworthless hit a man who was crossing the street illegally. That mans family was fine with not pressing the issue and just taking some side money from the player. You act like Mike Vicks 2 years in a federal Pen was a light sentence....I dis-agree.

Why is the Buress thing a huge issue? I think you answered your own question already.

I also know he did not have a concealed weapon permit or registration on the firearm.

Why is he looking at 36+ months?
WELCOME TO NEW YORK.

Maybe this liberal state would not be so harsh if somebody wasn't shot every 2 minutes in NY.
They even shoot themselves just to keep the average alive, just ask Plax.

I think they are saying that he is guilty of reckless endangerment since he was carrying a loaded, concealed handgun which went off and could have killed an innocent bystander. Does that deserve 3 years?? Probably not in comparison to sentences that involded felonies where someone other than the guilty was injured,

he plead out and got 2 years. Sounds as if he needed a better attorney. I think that's ridiculous, and I'm not saying that because I'm a Plaxico or Giants fan which I'm not.

2 years for having and expired license on his gun? That's pretty brutal. Maybe I'm missing something??

His sentence might have been shorter if he had accidently shot and killed someone. You would think that he could have been fined like 250k with probation. I don't think like a Liberal though.

I thought Law and Order was a Conservative thing. Let's see the guy had a concealed weapon that he did not have a permit for and an expired license. Plus the gun went off in a public place. So of course the Law and Order crowd wants him to go free?
Lets see, 19 year old Puerto Rican kid, gun goes off in a convience store. Do you set him free too?

YEP, I agree...I think it has to do with New York being so liberal, they don't want anyone to have guns period. Dante and the dog killer got off easy compared to Plax, who shot himself to boot.

i think ferdville has it right....from what i have read the bullet just missed hitting somebody else....imo the 2 years is about right...can't have people walking around in crowded areas with unlicensed loaded guns...

I just think the punishment should fit the crime. Don't get me started on these DUI superstars that get off with no time even when somebody dies.

If I was Plax, I'd have been carrying a gun too. Granted, I would have had a concealed carry license. Just seems like there's more to it than this.

i think "some" jail time is warranted, given the public endangerment issue.....but,it does seem a tad on the heavy side,imo...

i understand he plead to avoid trial...would this have been a jury trial?....because,if that`s the case,i can understand why he plead....

in this country, you just never know what you`ll get in a jury trial...seems it`s all about jury selection...not justice...

If I goto a club and some asshole brings a loaded weapon in and it goes off, I want that fucker going to jail. Sorry fellas, but if you are going to endanger the lives of others, you get what you deserve. What good was going to come out of that situation? None.

If you don't think this punishment fits the crime, read up on what can happen if you get caught with a bag of weed. Ridiculous.

I think everyone makes some good points about Plax.I do laugh when you guys say the "liberal state of NY". We ain't as liberal as many of you think....but the Plax case is quite intresting. As a long time Giant fan we are a conservative type team. The Mara's[owners] have always been quite conservative.Shockley and his antics,Plax and all his BS have always made many of us loyal true blue fans uneasy.
The penalty of 20 months behind bars does seem a little to harsh for the crime he committed. But I do understand the reason he got the time after a plea bargain.New York City does need a strict gun law. It's a city and so many freak'in people are killed by stray bullets.last month the Coney Island 87 year old lady goes out to see her flowers she just planted and gets a bullet in her neck. The little league player is waiting for his team to show up on the field for the team pictures..gets a bullet in his head...he lives and got to throw out a ball for the Mets after he recovered. The 10 yr old from guyana killed,etc,etc...
Not sure of the stats but its alarming.some are saying Plax didn't know the laws.I don't buy that. But does it warrant him being locked up for 2 years...I don't know..I'm mixed...when we start comparing Donte,Vick, etc something seems wrong.
Putting this fool in prison for two years will not stop it..but it might persuade other fools from it.That is my take.

He could have paid a big fine with some community service mixed in and more good could have came out of his situation.

BTW its not "Law and Order" down here in Bammy. Its "Mayberry" bitches!

Just clowning with you. I don't have any business in Neew Yark anyways.

Good? As in "I can carry a loaded weapon into clubs, fire it, and get a slap on the wrist" good? I'm sorry, but he needs to do some time and others need to know it is the price you pay for packing heat without a permit.

Lock him up, guns are no good. Alcohol and firearms are even worse. If he really thinks he needs to "stay safe" why doesn't he do what many other high profile celebrities/athletes do and get a bodyguard. He could even get an armed guard if he thinks that would be better. That solves the problem right there.

Slink..I agree with you...to me maybe some time in jail..big time community service, big fines. Send him to every middle school and high school in NYC and let him send a message.but he has to also eat lunch at these schools.I'm sure there are people that could put a program together about gun laws, etc. He did something that was dumb. He's paying a huge price for his stupidty. And when you add dumb + stupidty and have a gun many times bad things happen.
mayberry..lol...my all time favorite tv character is from Mayberry..there is no one that can touch my Barney...he carried a gun..thank god he had only 1 bullet...If plax had his bullet in his top pocket like barney, he would be playing for some team in the NFL right now...

i`m usually with the law and order gang....but 2 years is a long time considering no one was injured...

if this were a second offense,i`m down with it....

i still can`t figure out why there`s no mandatory time in place for fleeing in a motor vehicle.....to me,this is a much more likely scenario for potential disaster....

plax should do some time...i agree...just think 2 years for a first offense with no immediate victim is a little harsh....

i could change my mind,though....it was pretty stupid....i see gmro`s point...
