OVERALL RECORD 4-2 (+1.5 units)
NCAA:4-2
NFL 0-0
I just started posting here last week, and I hope I can add some input into handicapping. Let's look at tonites NFL game
San Fran (-4.5) at NYG.
This game looks to good to be true. I hate when everyone is on one side, and it seems like everyone is pounding the 49ers. But, in this case, I think the linesmakers made the line to get us thinking about why we SHOULD play the NYG, b/c it looks like a read "on paper" mismatch. They want us to play into the "1st game on the season, and getting points at home." They want you to think, and I am not going to bite.
Mooch is probably my favorite coach in the NFL. I am a Bears fan, but I love Mariucci. He is a very sharp coach, and hired great personnel around him. ( I cant believe Jim Mora's son can be so good, either) I have no problem backing him, ever. In terms of the game the 49ers are extremely balanced on offense. They have the #2 best running game, and the 4th best passing game. Jeff Garcia is as good as it gets. There defense had 3
shutouts toward the end of last year. They are young and have jelled together the past 2 years.
The Giants are in trouble. Tiki Barber is probably going to play, but he has an injured wheel. Ron Dayne is very average, and the running game isnt going to have to much sucess against the 49ers front 7. Kerry Collins throws to many interceptions for my liking, and he doesnt have great weapons at WR. Shockey is a machine and will be a pro-bowler, in time. He is still a Rookie. However, the most important factor to this game in the Giants O-Line. They are basically starting 5 new starters. Preseason is preseason, its a whole different ballgame tonite. I think the 49ers are a really solid play, and may up it to 1.5 units before kickoff, depending on the line movement. (I play up to 3 units.) So... PLAY 49ers, -4.5
