the phillies are in a tailspin. They are in the midst of playing 26 games in 27 days and they have a tough time winning on the road. Here are a few points :
1. Phillies players are not coached by Bowa -- He is just a cheerleader-- he asssumes all players know how to play and just need to be motivated. They do not work on things like moving runners - sacrifice bunts- how to hit w/ a 3-1 or 2-0 count -- hit and run
2. key strikeouts and runners left on base -- Thome in all his HR's has taught the rest of the team that it is OK to strikeout. Phils hitters leave the most runners on base -- their specialty seems to be the infield pop- out w/ a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs.
3. Pitchers are starting to get tired-- starters can only carry this team so far esp on the road-- the starters cannot continually win games getting 2-3 runs per game.
4. Lack of a true leadoff man/speed -- Rollins is clueless /Byrd is just a rookie - polanco is either Ice hold or white hot.
5. No moves at trading deadline...need a long relief man -- need a leadoff man who gets on base -- need a 5th starter -- instead they got a "replacment closer " as many of you know closers are a strange breed -- they dont like other closers hanging out in the bullpen.
6. Burrell is lost in space --
All this adds up to a team that is very overrated -- b4 you commint one more dollar to this team -- wait til the get back home
