Why would/did Brown do a 180 on letting Palmer go?

Now that its looking like Palmer is heading towards Oakland, you have to wonder why Brown would risk setting such a precedent.

After all this is the same owner that refused to deal Ochocinco 2 yrs ago.

The idea of Palmer in silver and black is intriguing. One small, but powerful sidebar, Palmers wife is from San Jose, not all that far from Oakland.

Theres more to this story than what we've heard so far.

Smart move in the end. Two first round picks for the way Palmer has looked the past few seasons is an absolute steal!!! Bengals could turn that into some talent and add that with Dalton/AJ Greene and they might actually have something there in the future. :0corn :0corn

2- 1st round picks plus the fact that your team has been doing well without Palmer makes this move much much easier for Brown. Palmers wife being from out west would have little to no influence on this move.

No debate on that. The compensation is probably too much, and shows how desperate Oak is.

But my point is, after taking such an inflexible stand with Ocho, what message does this send to other players wanting out of Cincy? Young stud athletes seem to want to be on one coast or the other. NY, LA, Miami, Bos, SF.

Two first round draft picks, added to an already well stocked bengal team, plus the addition by subtraction factor. Thats all good. But the final judging of this deal won't be possible until we see how long it takes for the next guy to want out. The next guy who confronts Brown with, "You did it for Palmer........why not me?"

I can't believe how much they gave up for him. Cutler was traded for a second round pick and hes a lot better then Palmer IMO. Raiders will regret this one later

Palmers situation is one that is few and far between. He hated being a Bengal and was willing to give up money to sit out the season. Most players will never be in that situation. Also is it a coincidence that the Bengals are suddenly better without Palmer and the distraction that he had become? I hope he falls flat on his face in Oakland.

2 first rounders is ridiculous...that said,if oakland was winning with jason campbell,it`s hard to fathom how good they`ll be with palmer....

my guess is that he does damned well and the raiders are serious threats to san diego...and everyone else in the afc...

ridiculous price tag....but considering how long it`s been since oakland was a legit winner and what an upgrade this is,i can understand it...boller wasn`t winning anything there...

Can you blame the guy?? One first round pick next year and the possibility of another first round pick the year after for a washed up disgruntled player?? Brown is looking like a genius right now.
