..no commitments whatsoever so here I am. Looking at Thistledown and Mountaineer. The quality of horse flesh should sharply improve with the added purse money provided by the new slots. Gone should be the 5-6 horse fields that made me go elsewhere.

Will be playing on the fly if anybody here has a live one today anywhere let me know. there will be small pools at thistle until the word gets out, so small wagers.

Thistle race 1: #3 Eolos... brings Brach, who i like up from MTN for the ride. The #5 looks tough but want some price here. $10 win and place.

I check in here but, hate to post anything unless I feel like I really had time to look at the race...now moving into that time of year but, nothing today.

I see you bet to win and place. Do you have a certain odds level (for instance anything under 4-1 where you only bet w/p rathr than across the board.

I haven't mastered anything but, there are many days when I feel like my percentage in the money is reasonable but, I end up down on the $$ side. That is what I am trying to shore up at this point...a wagering strategy incoporating wps and the exotics that make the most sense.

Enjoy your gift of time and good luck.

Azbob, In general I do bet to W&P as I don't feel that show betting pays for itself in the long haul. I will play across the board on occasion though when I'm thinking that the fav is likely to not hit the board. I always pull up the pool totals at twinspries to see how much is bet and on who in the place and show pools and act, or not act accordingly.

I think the biggest problem that 90% of casual horse players make the mistake of getting too involved with exactas and trifectas. These will break most bettors in the long run. I'll play a pick 3 ticket now and then if I like two horses a lot and use them with an all ticket in a wide open third race. Have caught some nice tickets with that angle. But my far, almost all of my action is W&P only. I have no price limits other than staying away from all horses at even money or less. I'll play 6-5s or 7-5s if I feel they are far the best.

Love the trainer stats in the better past performances to see how they have done in the same situation before. really important when playing a horse that has been on the bench for awhile or a first time starter in a maiden race.

I will try to just really know as much as I can about a specific circuit. Here, you will see many of the same faces racing at Thistledown and Mountaineer. So this is where almost all my serous money goes. It's not a get rich scheme to me to play the ponies , it's a long, long venture and as long as I can grind out even a meek profit at the end of the day, it's a good day.

Usually I have other stuff on my plate and don't play a full card like today so I seldom post myself. Today is an exception.

Best of luck to you sir :0008

Thanks alot for the post and insight...very true on the exotics. On the other hand, gambling, in general, is a losing proposition.

I try to focus on the trainer stats and the recent workouts. My first filter is to try to eliminate some horses off the workouts and then move on to analysis on (hopefully) a smaller field which gives me enough time to focus on fewer horses. I have gotten pretty good at the elimination process as it is somewhat seldom that a horse I eliminate wins but, they are occasionally in the money. Then again, there are some races where that filter doesn't result in eliminating any entrant. I really don't look at the pools but, will have to think about that.

I do tend to go across the board for horses at 5-1 and higher but, you are correct that the show probably is a loser in the long run. Since I am betting offshore, I really don't play too many "super exotics" as to box a trifecta the minimum is usually $2.00 rather than offering lower cost alternatives.

Anyway, I'll check in later as I am taking a break from some outside work today. Good luck and keep up your profitable day.

be back tonight. I played Big Flirt in the 4th at thistle at 6-1 and he gets beat a neck by the 3-5 chalk, paying 3.60 to place. I dropped 2 bucks in the process. 4 bets, 4 seconds... It's getting old.
