It was a ritual...
We had a place on Cossayuna lake not far from Saratoga where we would spend most of August pulling in some nice bass and once a week we'd make it over to the track for a day of racing. And then came "Travers" day
Move over for the Bentleys, the Rolls Royces and the big Mercedes with ladies in big hats and the latest fashions... Not us...We would..
Pack the cooler.......arrive early and when the gates opened and run to stake out our real estate....Thats what we used to do anyhow. Somewhere in the vicinity of "The Big Red Spring" Man is that mineral water terrible.....whew...I have one son who loved it
Then we'd wait for the rest of the gang to arrive... begin handicapping have a coffee, break out some food and at 11 or so it was "brewski time" Large family outing....cousins, in-laws etc.
Stay till the end ....win /lose or draw and the down to "Joe Collins"for dinner ... that goes back in time...
Well, the kids grew older, sold the camp for lack of use and rising taxes, BUT... we still somehow seemed to make it back to the 'Travers" each year till last year...
That was the day my oldest son got married of all things...AND this year I have to babysit so they can go out and celebrate their anniversary.
Some things change and some things never do....."Sky Mesa" on top with 10 Most Wanted, and Peace Rules
