North of Titletown AKA Boston
NEW YORK ? A North Carolina mother of three has a simple message for anti-war celebrities like West Wing star Martin Sheen and singer Sheryl Crow: enough already!

Lori Bardsley of Summerfield, N.C., has gotten so sick of hearing entertainers sound off that she has set up Citizens Against Celebrity Pundits, a group designed to keep discussion of the issue in perspective.

"When someone like Martin Sheen or Barbra Streisand takes their money and supports something like this, it?s blowing it out of proportion," Bardsley said in an interview with Fox News. "The average American would never have the resources to take the measures they?ve decided to take."

Bardsley has set up an online petition for people who agree they've heard enough from Hollywood celebs, and said she has collected 47,000 signatures.

Bardsley said her main gripe is that she believes stars are using the war as an excuse to criticize President Bush.

"I think they should be honest and say, ?We don?t like Bush. We don?t like anything he stands for,?" she said.

Bardsley said she will collect signatures for at least another month before mailing copies of the petition to the White House and some of the most outspoken celebrities, including Sheen. Supporters can also contribute money through the Web site toward the cost of a half-page ad that Bardsley plans to take out in USA Today.

"I created a place for mainstream America to speak out against Hollywood," said Bardsley.

But some say anti-war celebrities are filling a necessary void by sounding off at a time when simple opposition to the Bush administration's policy in Iraq is deemed unpatriotic by some.

"If we are to get our side of the message out, unfortunately we have to have help," said Eli Pariser, international campaigns director of MoveOn.org ? one of the organizers of the Feb. 26 Virtual March on Washington. "We don?t have the bully pulpit of the president on our side."

That help, he said, has come in the form of celebrities who attract press.

Along with Crow and Sheen ? who plays the president on NBC's The West Wing ? Janeane Garofalo, Susan Sarandon, Mike Farrell and Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst have all expressed their anti-war views.

Garofalo, for her part, told Fox News Sunday that she has long opposed military action against Iraq and that her criticism is about much more than President Bush. She said she has also protested President Bill Clinton?s actions there ? though no one took notice.

"The Clinton administration?s Iraq policy was despicable," she said. "Nobody, really, was interested in listening to me back then."

Garofalo and several other celebs have joined the peace group Win Without War. The group helped run the Virtual March, an e-mail campaign that prompted protestors to flood the White House and Congress with what they said were hundreds of thousands of calls and faxes last Wednesday.

"We can contain Saddam Hussein without killing innocent people, diverting us from the war on terrorism and putting us all at risk," Sheen said in a television ad for the event.

But Bardsley and others are fed up with the anti-war stars because she believes their celebrity gives them a louder voice than regular folks.

"I cannot take away their freedom of speech ? I?m not attempting to do that ? but I think we?re the silent majority," she said of those who support the administration.

Pariser countered that the star-studded sounding off has created a forum for debate.

"In a climate where people who speak out against this war are accused of being unpatriotic, having folks say, 'We love our country but we think this war is a bad idea? helps create an atmosphere where the pros and cons can really be discussed."

Not all celebrities have spoken out against war in Iraq. Former Republican senator and now-Law & Order star Fred Thompson appeared in a TV commercial last week supporting the Bush administration's position.

Whatever their opinions, others believe the rich and famous should be sensitive to American troops when they decry military action in Iraq.

"I wish celebrities would get up and say, ?Look, we support our troops? ? whether or not they support the war," said Stacy Chastain-Rath of Raymore, Mo. "I think it?s a slap in the face to these people brave enough to go over there and fight."

The celeb's dont give a shit. They think and may be right. The pres and all his men keep telling everyone how good this war is for us. So they just trying to tell other side of what they think. Only in America. Hey that ladie she has same right good for her. Sounds like it's helping her get rid of some stress. And of course if she loves Fox News she is right of center big time. And if she did not like Clinton either and now she does not like this war. What does she like. Attention. Yup! and Fox News.

as far as the celebs are concerned,an empty can makes the most noise.....why aren`t the more conservative celebs as obnoxious.......the mel gibson`s,the kurt russell`s the james woods....maybe because they have solid, current careers...i still don`t know what janeine garofalo does for a living....no way is she a comedienne....she`s about as funny as al franken....no different than jesse jackson and al sharpton....some are race hustlers....some are political opportunists....they make their livings off of negativity and divisiveness......

I guess the only thing to do is listen to the adminestrations line. That's all. No matter who is in office. It was so good of all of you right wingers stand behind President Clinton when he said he didn't have sex with that woman. Hey, he was the President and we all know no one should ever question the President. Or maybe I have that wrong. On matters as important as sex we should stand up and fight but something as incidental as war....what the heck.

if clinton had been acting presidential, instead of getting b.j.`s,he might have done a better job of keeping an eye on n.korea.....now,thanks to his treaty, that they ignored(no verification involved),they have several nukes capable of hitting california......a n.korean long range test missile warhead was found in the state of alaska...they just tested another...flew it right over japan!!!!.....now,they intercepted an unarmed u.s. recon jet flying over international air space......these guys are scary....and kim jong-il is pretty much a nut....

we were forced to send 24 b-1 and b-52 bombers over to guam to calm this dictator down....but,the truth is,he has nukes...we have to deal with this communist dictator.....he now has enormous leverage...he has already threatened to destroy all of korea and hit the u.s ....the guy is very scary...this could have been avoided...

N Korea was allowing UN Nuke inspectors in as instructed in the treaty. They left three months ago. Has nothing to do with 94. Its about distrust my a mad man over remarks made by our Pres. You just cant say dumb things when your dealing with a nut case.
However maybe Bush did it on purpose and wants a war with N Korea. I guess we find out in next 3/4 mionths.

Who gives a flying "F' what any celebrity says? If you remember after 9/11, the celebs were hiding their butts like scared little girls. They met in a "secret" recording studio for the benefit concert. They cancelled the friggin Emmies not once, but TWICE, because they felt they were targets. So, if they were so damn scared, wouldn't you think they would want somebody to do something about it? In fact, out in Hollywood, they basically closed down some studios for a short time and increased security about tenfold. If I was too scared to show my face in public for fear of being targeted, I sure as hell would want somebody to do something about the people I feared. Now that somebody wants to do something, these same self-serving aholes have the nerve to say it is wrong. When you want to know something about a man, look at his actions not at this words. The Hollywood crowd fails this test to the max.

Fox didn't happen to ask her about this quote of hers did they?

Janeane Garafola

"Our country is founded on a sham: our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So when I see the American flag, I go, 'Oh my God, you're insulting me.' That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, 'We're here, we're queer!' -- that's what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride."

Clinton, Clinton, Clinton. The only thing Clinton did wrong in North Korea was not following up on the construction of the 2 light-water reactors that we promised to build the North, in conjunction with S. Korea. Granted, that was a big mistake, but all this stuff about how Clinton 'should have taken care of it by force' and how 'N. korea built their army during his watch' is total BS. Their army was just as strong or stronger in 92 than it is today. If anybody ignored that agreement, it was the U.S. and South Korea.

If this admin manages to hit the exacta of initiating two major wars (with one being incredibly costly dollar-wise and the other one simply devastating in every way), I have no doubt that when we look back at the body and dollar count of these 4 years 10 years from now, there will be plenty of people yelping, ' yeah, but if only Clinton didn't get head, all that wouldn't have happened'.

And what's this about a 'N. Korean test missle warhead' being found in Alaska? Come on, guy. Unless it washed up on shore from the Sea of Japan and the missle was circa 1953, I think you may be a little off on this one. By all accounts, they have not tested their long-range missle. Where do some of you guys get some of your material? I'm not sure if this misinformation and general nonsense is intentional, or a by-product of hysteria, but really.

Also, the missle they just tested did not fly over Japan. It was an older short range missle that came nowhere near Japan's coast. The missle you are talking about that flew over Japan was tested in 1998 and they hadn't tested since then under a self-imposed ban.

Let's try to sneak some accurate information in there every now and then.

Blazer thankyou. Here i was starting to think Clinton didn't do anything. Thats all I here Clinton just left everything go. Your list shows another story.
Kosar N Korea you are correct since 1973 has had the 4th largest military in the world. 1, is China. 2, is USA 3, is Russia and they are 4. That did not just happen over night. Those number are not just personel but overall size and equipment.

DJV,

Exactly right. All we hear is that Clinton did nothing. In order to show the hypocrisy and contradictions of those Hollywood idiots, you have to contradict the Anti-Clinton propaganda that he sat and watched the world go to hell without trying to do something. Tough call, i'll bet.
