LONDON, (AFP) - Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) was captured by US troops only after he had been taken prisoner by Kurdish forces, drugged and abandoned ready for American soldiers to recover him, a British Sunday newspaper said.

Saddam came into the hands of the Kurdish Patriotic Front after being betrayed to the group by a member of the al-Jabour tribe, whose daughter had been raped by Saddam's son Uday, leading to a blood feud, reported the Sunday Express, which quoted an unnamed senior British military intelligence officer.

The newspaper said the full story of events leading up to the ousted Iraqi president's capture on December 13 near his hometown of Tikrit in northern Iraq (news - web sites), "exposes the version peddled by American spin doctors as incomplete".

A former Iraqi intelligence officer, whom the Express did not name, told the paper that Saddam was held prisoner by a leader of the Kurdish Patriotic Front, which fought alongside US forces during the Iraq war, until he negotiated a deal.

The deal apparently involved the group gaining political advantage in the region.

An unnamed Western intelligence source in the Middle East told the Express: "Saddam was not captured as a result of any American or British intelligence. We knew that someone would eventually take their revenge, it was just a matter of time."

Well I have to admitt since this story started to leak Late Friday early Saturday. No one has said it's not true. But if true. It was good work done by the Kurds and there work with our troops. And maybe the story should have come out a little more to the Kurds likeing. Bottom line is he's done. Now we watch and see if it helps the other attacks slow down. Hope so. Want our folks out of there ASAP.

If you take that at value I can only assume you concur with Deans analogy Bush was alerted by Saudi's prior to 911 and Madeline Albrights retort that we have Bin Laden already just waiting for appropriate time to release info.

You folks are getting to the point you are too ridiculas to responde to.

If you watch more 'fair and balanced" news you would have seen live interview with BBC correspondence who broke story and his response about his "credible source"

---and on your 2 more casualties
despite your gloating may I remind you this is only 3rd since capture of Saddam and only 14 in month of December so far--about 1/5 total of last month---

but then again I feel quite foolish telling that to someone
who sides with Deans view that capture made no one safer---

i heard the american colonel who was involved with his capture & said that the kurds were not involved in any way with saddam's capture.

so its up to each individual to determine who to believe.

i believe the colonel.

who do you believe ?

Albright: 'Rings' Sequel Timed to Benefit Bush

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright suggested today that the Bush administration influenced the timing of the release of the blockbuster movie 'The Return of the King' to boost the economy before the 2004 elections.

"In the first five days that movie has raked in $125 million," said Ms. Albright. "And that doesn't include popcorn, beverages and Sno-Caps. This is a major shot in the arm for the economy, and I find the timing suspicious. All three of these movies have been released during the Bush administration, and this one may create the economic tsunami that carries Bush to his second term."

In related news, Democrat presidential candidate Dick Gephardt, who is boycotting 'The Return of the King,' said the film was a 'miserable failure' which sent high-paying American jobs to New Zealand.

Keep in mind, in terms of how slanted or not this piece may be against the US and our troops, that AFP in the tagline means it was written and published by Agence France Presse.

Not saying the story is true or not true, but the French tend to slant their press to suit their needs, as do we - so do the French like us or not? Personally I dont believe its true, the truth usually lies somewhere in between two sides of the story, thats where I will sit for now. But just something to keep in mind....

The Americans admitt the best intelligence in Northern Iraq comes from the Kurds. But I dont think the story above is dead on accurate. It's good to have the Kurds working with us. And I hope we never leave them hanging out to dry again like Bush 41 did.
