Goin' with the Yanks for Game 1. CC has just been too good and he pitched pretty well at home in his prior start this year against Philly. Here's his line:
Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA
C Sabathia 8.0 9 3 3 0 4 0 110-75 3.42
In late May, Lee pitched pretty well against the Yanks as a member of the Indians, but here's where I see the advantage swing in favor of the Yankees:
A lot has been made this postseason of the long layoffs between games and series. Well.... the Phillies have been off for an entire week, which to me, is more than enough time to take a team out of its rhythm. I think the Phils will be a little dazed and will need at least a game to get their bats going again.
On the other hand, I love that the Yankees last game was on Sunday, just a two day layoff. CC last pitched on Tuesday and has had time to rest his arm after pitching on three days rest last series. I believe the week-long layoff has actually worked in his favor here. Its also worth noting that the last game Lee pitched was ten days ago so he might need an inning or two to get back in stride :scared
I know this isn't expert analysis here, but what it comes down to for me is that I just don't see the Yankees dropping game one at home with their horse on the mound ready to go 8 innings or more. FWIW, NY was 18-8 in the first game of a home series this year and 5 of those losses were within the first 55 games of the season, a time when they were hovering just above .500 and hadn't hit their stride yet.
Some other home numbers I want to throw out:
Since May 8th (when A-Rod came back and Tex took off) Yankees are 58-17 at home (including playoffs) a .773 win %
Since June 30th (around when the bullpen seemed to come together and Arod started hitting) NYY is 43-10 at home including the playoffs, an even more impressive .811 win %
CC has a 9-2 record at home this year including the playoffs and the Yankees went 12-5 in all his home starts (9-1 since June 30th, the date I mentioned above as when the team really started to come around). In fact, the Yankees have not lost a home game in which CC has started since Jul 2nd.
Yankees take game 1 @ home
