Yankees acquired OF Giancarlo Stanton and cash considerations from the Marlins for INFs Starlin Castro and Jose Devers, and RHP Jorge Guzman.
Most importantly for the Marlins, the Yankees will be responsible for $265 million of the $295 million remaining on Stanton?s contract.
Per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees will only receive $30 million from the Marlins if Stanton doesn?t use his opt-out after the 2020 season. Virtually nobody saw the Yankees coming here, but they swooped in after Stanton turned down deals to the Giants and Cardinals and finding a fit with the Dodgers was too complicated. The contract doesn?t hamstring the Yankees and they didn?t have to give up any of their top prospects. Assuming everyone stays healthy, the Yankees? lineup has a chance to be something special in 2018.
