PORTAGE, Wis. ? Upset that his 7-year-old son wouldn't wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the team's playoff victory Saturday, a man restrained the boy for an hour with tape and taped the jersey onto him.

Mathew Kowald was cited for disorderly conduct in connection with the incident with his son at their home in Pardeeville, Lt. Wayne Smith of the Columbia County Sheriff's Department said. Pardeeville is about 30 miles north of Madison.

The 36-year-old Kowald was arrested Monday after his wife told authorities about the incident. Kowald was taken to the county jail and held until Wednesday, when he pleaded no contest, paid a fine of $186 and was released.

Kowald's wife filed a restraining order Wednesday, so Kowald will not be able to have contact with his family, Smith said. Smith said other domestic issues have surfaced, though he wouldn't elaborate.

The boy refused to wear the jersey Saturday, when the Packers beat the Seattle Seahawks in a playoff game, Smith said. Smith said the incident sounded strange when reported at first, but the mother took pictures with her cell phone and that type of evidence is difficult to dispute.

Patriots To Honor Young Fan Booed at Chargers-Colts Game

During halftime of last Sunday's Chargers-Colts game, CBS honored the national winners of the Punt, Pass and Kick program. Everything was going swimmingly until the public address announcer got to the 14-15 year-old champion, Anna Grant. You see, Anna is from Stratham, New Hampshire, and she made the mistake of wearing a Patriots jersey during the ceremony. You can guess how that turned out (around the 0:45 mark):

To Grant's credit, she laughed off all the booing. Probably had something to do with her favorite team being 17-0, and that the Colts were in the middle of crapping the bed against the Chargers. I can only imagine she was in hysterics when San Diego pulled out the win. But it gets better:

"What I decided is that we would honor [Grant at Gillette Stadium] before [the AFC Championship] game," [Patriots owner Robert] Kraft said... "We will recognize her as the winner on the field [during the pregame coin flip]. Our fans will know." ...

"Why should a champion be booed?" the boss of the three-time Super Bowl winners said Tuesday. "She won an intensive competition. She's supposed to be honored."
And so she will. It's easy (and fun) to take shots at the Patriots, but this is pretty awesome. It would be much awesomer, though, if Peyton Manning had to escort Grant to midfield. In a Tom Brady jersey.

I love it. A Philly fan calling out another team's fans. Booing a kid is stupid. Being an idiot is listed below.

In 1999, fans jeered Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin as he lay on the field for 20 minutes, suffering from a neck injury that ended his career.

That same year, fans threw D batteries at St. Louis Cardinals outfielder J.D. Drew, who held out for a year after the Phillies drafted him and eventually signed with the Cards instead.

Matthew Scott, the only person in the United States to have received a hand transplant, was asked by the Phillies to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the team's home opener in 1999. The pitch, from his transplanted hand, dribbled over the plate. The fans booed.

Eagles fans famously blasted Santa Claus with a shower of snowballs at halftime of a game as St. Nick circled helplessly around the field before stadium officials rescued him.

The Redskins mascot and the Hogettes once were attacked in the stands.

Veterans Stadium was considered so rough that the city opened up a jail ? complete with a court and a judge ? inside the stadium after a particularly nasty bout of drunkenness and fighting at a Monday night game between the Eagles and 49ers in 1997.

Alabama fan stabs five Auburn students
Nathan at Golden Tornado points out this bizarre story:

A fan screaming "Roll Tide" outside a fraternity house led to a violent altercation early Saturday that left seven Auburn students injured, five with stab wounds.
Apparently the guy gets into a fight at the fraternity house, stabs a guy, and takes off. Other students chase him and ends up getting into another fight down the street, where he stabs four more Auburn students. Police don't have a suspect.

OK, I get that it's the Iron Bowl - but it's just a game.
