"Rusty Cage" -- Soundgarden
"Jesus Christ Pose" -- Soundgarden
"Fell On Black Days" -- Soundgarden
Most things off "Ride The Lightning", maybe "Fight Fire with Fire" if I had to choose.
A lot of "Reign in Blood"
"Mr. Brownstone" and "One in a Million" but you're getting away from metal and more into "hard rock" with G-N-R, in my opinion.

Never got into Maiden or Priest. Listened to some w.a.s.p., but they're outshined by some of these other bands.

While we're on the topic, I've kind of been looking around for anything NEW that older metal fans have been digging. I don't want to be the guy who thinks "all music today sucks" but it just seems like I'm not as "plugged in" as I was in college to new stuff.

I've never listened to Type O Negative or Fear Factory? Any comments? Any recs?

You can't tell me there's no up and coming bands out there that would list g-n-r, metallica and slayer as their influences. And I don't want to hear "puddle of mud" "linkin park" "p.o.d" or any other of that crap.

I haven't picked up "queens of the stone age" but plan to. That has Grohl on drums, and Lanerghan from "screaming trees". Also plan to get the Chris Cornell/Rage album that's coming out soon. But again, these guys aren't exactly "bursting onto the scene" either.

1)Welcome to the Jungle::::::Guns'n'Roses
2)For Whom the Bell Tolls:::::Metallica
3)Sanitarium:::::::::::::::::::::Metallica
4)I Can't Drive 55:::::::::::::::Sammy Hagar
5)Rainbow in the Dark:::::::::Dio

7)They're Out to Get Me::::::Guns'n'Roses
8)Photograph:::::::::::::::::::Def Leppard
9)Lick It Up!:::::::::::::::::::::Kiss

Best crowd participation concert song has to be Seek & Destroy by Metallica. Best live band is Metallica. Biggest disappointment band live has to be Iron Maiden, they absolutely sucked when I saw them and played only 55 minutes. Other great live bands are Kiss, Aerosmith, Guns'n'Roses (back in the heydays!), Def Leppard, & Nuggent.

Hey Shrimp,

Have you heard any Adema or Clutch? Both are pretty good and might be something you've never heard before. Neither gets much radio play but can be found on various music sites. See what you think.

paydirt -- Clutch sounds a little interesting. Any recommendations on a particular CD of theirs?

To pre-empt a flame war, just my opinion follows, so don't take anything personally.

I do kind of draw a distinction between metal and hard-rock. By Metal I tend to mean metallica/slayer/wasp/maiden.

Hard rock is most rock that isn't easy listening. At the bottom of the scale, I'd go with Bon Jovi. At the top of the scale, maybe AC/DC or Nirvana or Van Halen, G-N-R, Def Leppard.

NHL and Paydirt are about the only "all metal" lists, IMO, with a couple of exceptions on them.

Soundgarden, Screaming Trees, maybe Alice in Chains straddle the line.

As for Warrant, Poison, maybe Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, White Snake, Cinderalla, Great White -- maybe "Glam Rock" or "Glam Metal". That might be unfair to Crue to throw them in there, but they put out some shit. Come on, "Smoking in the Boys Room"?

Naturally, there are limitations and exceptions applying a label to any band.

Don't take that as me criticizing any of those bands just because I don't call them "metal". What I consider "hard rock" I like just as much. Big AC/DC and GNR fan. And some of those Crue/Twisted Sister songs I like. Kiss I never liked. Crue's early stuff is better, IMO, as is Metallica's.

There you go.

This is gonna be tough to narrow it down but here goes...

1. Too Young To Fall In Love....Motley
2. Shake Me...Cinderella
3. See You In Hell...Grim Reaper
4. Face Down In the Gutter...XYZ
5. Best Of Friends...Dangerous Toys
6. She Loves My Cock...Jackyl
7. Steelheart...Steelheart
8. I Hate Every Bone In Your Body But Mine...Poison
9. Mr Rainmaker...Warrant

etc...

Actually after the #1 song, if you asked me this question next week, it would probably be in a different order and maybe a song or two would be different. This is the music I grew up listening to, worshipping the people who did it, I grew my hair long, dressed the same way Motely did in all their stages, etc...It was all about sex, booze, and tattoos...

I'm sure it will all catch up to me sooner or later, but the music will never die in this household.

Not in any order but just a few I always liked:

Metallica - Trapped under ice
Iron Maiden - Rime of the ancient mariner (damm those Steve Harris bass lines are tough to play)
Megadeth - Wake up dead
Motley Crue - Live Wire
Anthrax - Caught in a mosh

Shrimp,

As far as Clutch goes I don't have their newer stuff but liked their first CD best "Transnational Speedway League" and their second CD, self titled "Clutch". Both are good examples of modern era hard rock that have'nt been commercialized yet. The band is local, from Maryland and some of my friends have hung out with the lead singer at College Park. For having such a strong voice he sure is a small dude. Go figure.:shrug:
