Manhattan Man Busted With 138 Lbs. Of Pot
May 24, 2005 11:49 am US/Eastern
(1010 WINS) (SPRING VALLEY, N.Y.) The state police and a pot-sniffing dog ruined a 38-year-old Manhattan man's travel plans -- sending him to jail instead of Rochester after, police said, they found 138 pounds of marijuana in suitcases in his car. State Police Investigator Kevin McGrath says the arrest was sure to have far-reaching effects.
Police say Carlton Brown is charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana shortly after Trooper James Leeder saw him driving erratically and stopped him.
Trooper Leeder had his K9 partner, Robbie, with him to sniff out the pot.
Brown was driving at 12:50 am yesterday on the Thruway in Ramapo when Leeder stopped the car.
Brown is being held in the Rockland County jail without bail.
Police say the marijuana in two suitcases had a street value $150,000.
