Cops: Dumb Parolee Sets Fire To Ankle Bracelet

(1010 WINS) GLENS FALLS, N.Y. Police believe an upstate man found suffering from severe burns was injured when he tried to burn off the tracking device attached to his ankle.
Witnesses told authorities they spotted 25-year-old Jason McClaskey engulfed in flames on the porch of his home in Glens Falls early yesterday morning.
When emergency crews arrived, they found smoldering clothes in the yard and McClaskey inside the house in extreme pain. He's being treated at the burn unit at Westchester Medical Center with burns over 60 percent of his body.
Police say McClaskey was wearing the monitor after being convicted on a breaking-and-entering charge. They say he apparently used lighter fluid in an attempt to burn off the device and instead set himself on fire.
Police say attempts to dismantle the monitoring devices set off alarms that alert authorities.
