I was thinking--
If forum runs true to normal demographics--every other poster here pays no federal income tax --64% of us receive more federal benefits than we pay in. :0corn

This is the first year in a long time where I have mine done and already have my refund in pocket. The state of North Carolina are the crooks this year. Since there is a budget shortage and to make sure they remain liquid enough, they are cutting refund checks very slowly. Also, they are cutting the smallest amounts first. When you get your refund has nothing to do with when you filed. :sadwave:

About 38 percent of households have zero or negative income tax liability, but they pay other federal taxes.

These are 3 of the many articles I could find that address the percentage of Americans who do not pay income tax. 2 of these are the exact same article. There are many more but I'm not linking to all of them

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Nearly-half-of-US-households-apf-1105567323.html?x=0&.v=1

http://blogs.marketwatch.com/fundmastery/2010/04/08/47-of-americans-pay-no-income-taxes/

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/07/income-tax-47-of-american_n_529059.html

I believe the income tax is a different tax than social security or medicare so folks not paying income tax do pay those as well as the too numerous to mention local, state and consumption taxes.

I'm a proponent of the Fair Tax but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Those articles just talk about who cuts the check. Everytime that you buy Gas, Coffee or a Candy Bar, that Company has charged you for the tax that they'll pay no different then them charging you for the crude, coffee beans or chocolate.

. . . and Jack, getting your product into your customers hand is heavily subsidized. We're all glad we could help, though

Say what?

They don't pay social security? or have taxes taken out of their paycheck?

I know that the "talking" point is that half do not pay taxes but that is not true.

I believe post said--
