and what were you doing when the WTC Towers were hit?

I just arrived@ work for the state, (CA), and the satellite TV was on because the first plane had already hit. My co-workers and I were wondering WTF, when the second plane hit shortly thereafter. The TV stayed on for the next 3 days as ppl came by for updates and any other info. I think we were watching CNN mostly. Total shock and total anger when the Towers fell. As was stated during that time, paraphrasing: "We're all New Yorkers."

I was in Court observing a trial in order to be admitted to the state Bar when the judge came in and gave a speech about "our freedom being under attack", and that there would be no court that day. Everybody was very confused b/c we didn't have TVs in the courtroom so nobody knew exactly what was going on. We had all heard that a plane struck the tower(s), but no one knew whether it was a twin engine Cessna, or a jumbo jet. I remember driving home from the courthouse and listening to Peter Jennings describe the towers falling...very surreal, and very scary. :(

All you had to do was tell people you are the MAC Daddy and they would have said, "OH, that's ok!!" LOL!! :D :D :D

Just kidding Omar!!!

Donna and I were on our way to Florida (we left on 9/10)
and we were driving to my parents house (from Tampa) and heard it on the radio. I called my Folks and told them to put on CNN and they were amazed!! Our flight home was delayed 3 days!!

Getting out of the car at the parking garage when I first heard it. We have a morning crew on the radio that is always doing dumb shit like this for pranks, so I thought they had just crossed the line when starting this one. Once we got in the office building, I was passing a TV when the second one hit.

I remember not thinking it was a very big deal because it seemed like it couldn't be true. Could I have been more wrong?

Was listening to the local am radio station who reported that a "rocket" had hit one of the WTC towers. Then watched on TV when I got home and saw the second plane hit live.

I was in class watching on TV when the Challenger exploded in 1986.

I'm sure everybody here who was alive when JFK was shot will also remember what they were doing or where they were when they heard that news too.

I was in the LR. Wife was in the kitchen.

TV was off.

Unknowingly, I turned on the puter and clicked on the msnbc.com web site to read the national news.

Saw a pic in the upper right hand corner w/ caption, "plane crashes into wtc"

Told wifey to turn on the tv.

Was listening and watching as second plane hit the second tower.

At home, getting ready for work when my dad called and asked me if a friend from college still worked in the towers, I said yes and he told me to turn on the tv. Was still talking with my dad when the second plane hit.

Lost one of my best friends that morning. Still hard to believe.

There was an article in the USA Today last Thursday about how 45% of the victims still haven't been identified. The article said only 12 people were identified visually. My friend was one of those 12.

Maybe too personal of info to post but it seems to help me when I talk about it. Going to his cemetary on Thursday morning.

I was sitting at my desk at work when one of my co-workers announced that the 1st Tower had been hit. No one knew what the hell was going on. The 2nd Tower was then hit and we just couldn't believe it. We walked down to one of the corner offices in my building (Tower 1-needless to say the office wasn't very comfortable) and watched the smoke rise from the WTC, which is about 50 miles away. Just an awful and sad, sad day.

was on my way to a Rotary Club golf exchange/trip with the rotary club of Kalispell Montana. When we picked up our last guy in the vehicle, he told us about the "plane crash". As we headed towards the US border we heard the story developing on the radio. Very eerie day. The border was open to car traffic, but the border guards looked shaken.

That evening's welcome gathering with our American friends was very sombre.

Incredible security at the border on our drive home the next day.

Hearing it unfold on the radio gave the whole day a "War of the Worlds" type feel...Just waiting for someone to come on and say it wasn't real...

had just got out of shower, watchig the today show when they reported wtc on fire. From Massachusetts, but my brother is in New York couple times every week on business. I knew he was in New York that morning because he called me from Yankee Stadium the night before. Was at Sox/Yankees game, Clemens was going for a record, ultimately the game was cancelled (rain), but I knew he was working at wtc that morning.

Spent the next several hours trying to reach him on cell phone, finally reached him via Internet on his blackberry Wireless. Very stressful. he is a pretty tough kid, all State Football player in Massachusetts in high school, but is still emotionally affected from the things he saw and lived that day. his company lost 21 people.

Waldo sorry about your loss

Sitting in my office on Wall and Broadway when the first plane hits. Leave my office and go and see what is happening. See the second plane hit. Stand mesmerized on the corner of Pine and Broadway watching people jump from 100 floors up. Even at the time, it occured to me that what was going on behind them must be totally horrific if jumping seems like the right thing to do. Look down at the ground every now and then to remind myself what I am seeing is real. Injured when first tower falls (second tower hit). Many on the ground also killed at this time. Two close friends dead, girlfriend's brother dead, coincidentally, all three had four young children.

Bill Maher doesn't think the hijackers were cowards........I guess murdering 3,000 civilians just doesn't cut it in his book.

Freedom isn't free, that's why everyone wants to live in America my friends....the Americans have paid and sacrificed for their freedom, and I for one am honored to be allowed to come and live in this country and share in it.

Bless all the families and friends who lost loved ones, and bless our forefathers who gave their lives for our way of life.

It was my senior year at UW-Madison. The night before I'd run into an ex-girlfriend for the first time in eight months, and we had a State Street bar called Monday's that is known for it's notoriously strong drinks. I passed out at like 3 a.m., and my phone started ringing at like 8 a.m. or something. I of course ignored it. But whoever it was kept calling back, and I slowly got out of bed to see how it was, and the caller ID was the hospital my mother works at. So I knew something was wrong, because when I was in school my Mom never, ever called me before 11:30. So I was still drunk from the night before and saw the second plane hit. It was all surreal because of the hungover/drunk/tired combination. I wished it was a nightmare, but it wasn't.

But I have to say, I agree with Mauer. There are thousands of bad adjectives you can use to describe those hijackers (insane, physco, distrubed, murderous, deserving-of-a-horrific-death, scum-of-the-earth, whatever), but to kill yourself for a cause you believe in, no matter how demented it is, is not being a coward. It's just one of the aforementioned adjectives.

My family and I were at the Knoxville airport believe it or not. We were to begin a 7 day trip to Disney World. We had just gotten our boarding passes and were headed towards the gate. Looked at a bunch of folks watching the tube at Ruby Tuesdays. Went over, asked what's up? Couldn't believe my eyes. USAir reps said the nation had been grounded. We were fortunate to get our luggage back in just a few minutes. Stepped outside the terminal and TV crews were everywhere. They pounced on me to interview my family and I cuz we were headed to Disney I guess.

I have regretted my next move ever since 9/11. After promising my boys for weeks they were going to Disney World, I decide to load up the Explorer and drive to Orlando, explaining to my 5 year old that some "bad men" crashed their planes into the Twin Towers and that they were keeping us from flying to go see Mickey but Daddy would get him and his brother to Orlando.

The next 10 hours my wife and I listened in disbelief what was going down in NY on the radio. The interstate was deserted. Not one trooper on the road. Hardly any traffic. I said to my wife many times, "This is wrong going to Disney". I kept focusing on my boys and how they would be so disappointed. Selfish of me was all I could think of.

We arrived Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge straight-up midnight. My wife and I had yet to see one piece of footage. Nothing but Dan Rather and Brokaw describing the events on the radio. Bolted to our room, turned on the tube and stayed up until 4AM that morning. I couldn't sleep.

Many have said to me, "don't let them win, they win if you alter your life or are scared to travel". I guess. All I know is that thousands of people died that day and I went to Disney World with my family. What a scumbag.

P.S. God got us back though. He sent a hurricane right through Orlando 2 or 3 days later. It rained, rained and rained some more.
